Job Overview
Provide one on one trauma informed support to assigned youth to augment normal supervision for children/youth whose behaviors or developmental needs are challenging in a family setting. Therapeutic support ensures the health, safety, and well-being of the child and/or youth in their current placement or in the community. This role helps to provide a supportive environment for the child/youth to help facilitate personal growth and increase a child/youth's ability to maintain successfully in their identified placement. This role reports to and communicates with their assigned Caregiver Support Specialist. In addition, a Case Aide will participate in program training and organizational meetings.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide one-to-one support for assigned children and/or youth as needed.
  • Partner with assigned Caregiver Support Specialist to implement the Caregiver Support plan.
  • During one-to-one meetings, provide a supportive environment to ensure children get their needs met by using socially acceptable behaviors.
  • Model appropriate behavior during interactions with the child/youth's family.
  • Teach and practice appropriate social skills, coping skills, and self-regulation skills.
  • Acknowledge the child/youth's abilities and accomplishments to increase self confidence and self-esteem.
  • Redirect ineffective behavior, offer choices and teach/model how to negotiate and problem solve.
  • Establish a process for emergency medical treatment in the event it may be necessary for the child/youth during the provision of a one-to-one interaction.
  • Provide training and support to caregivers to maintain and increase their skills to work with children/youth with special needs.
  • Address the details of a crisis that may arise during working and non-working (on call) hours.
  • Maintain and assess the safety of the child as required by Olive Crest and DCYF guidelines.
  • Document required interaction with the child/youth in a timely manner.
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to Children's Administration intake and to the designated administrator or assigned supervisor.
  • Obtain annually required training hours.
  • Allow 24-hour notification if unable to work an assigned shift.
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be 21 years of age or older.

  2. Have a high school diploma or high school or equivalency course of study (GED/HSEC) AND

  3. Twenty-four (24) months of documented professional experience working with children and families in specific professional settings (including foster parenting) OR

  4. An Associate's Degree in Human Services or related field, or two (2) years of completed coursework toward Bachelor's degree AND

  5. One (1) year of documented professional experience working with children and families in professional settings OR

  6. A Bachelors degree in Human Services or related field AND

  7. Six (6) months of documented experience directly working with children and families in the following specific professional settings (the six (6) months may include volunteer time or internship

  8. Have the skill and ability to work successfully with the special needs of children in care.

  9. Effective problem-solving skills.

  10. Knowledge of basic child development, milestones, and child safety.

  11. Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Suite.

  12. Advanced oral and written communication skills.

  13. Strong personal and organizational skills.

  14. Valid WA State driver's license and acceptable driving record.

  15. Reliable vehicle and current automobile insurance, indicating your name on the coverage.

  16. First Aid/CPR certification for infants and children completed.

  17. Must have 2 hours of HIV/blood borne pathogens training in the past 5 years.

  18. Criminal record clearance.

  19. Ability to lift 25 lbs. and intervene in a physical way during crisis situations with minors up to 18 years of age.

  20. Adequate vision and hearing to be able to assess client's needs.

  21. Flexibility in terms of range of hours and days/times of visits.

  22. Must have a philosophy of support for at-risk children and families in line with the mission, vision, values, and statement of faith of Olive Crest.

Schedule Requirements:

  • Must be available to work evenings (until 8:00 p.m.) and weekends
