POSITION TITLE: EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT - BEHAVIOR REDIRECTOR

Job Description
To provide a behavior redirection/intervention program at school site.

Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Provides behavior redirection strategies that align with restorative practice techniques and promote learning.
  • Guides student's behavior from inappropriate to appropriate.
  • Provides immediate and consistent interventions for students with behavioral concerns.
  • Meets with students referred for behavioral concerns and intervenes early in the behavior cycle.
  • Shortens the time a student is out of the classroom due to behaviors.
  • Provides a structured format that helps students investigate their behavior(s).
  • Helps students focus on positive choices.
  • Attends and actively participates in the school's Health and Wellness Team as required.
  • Returns student to the classroom, as soon as possible, with a plan for positive choices that enable learning to occur.
  • Inputs case notes/data records in the district Student Information System.
  • Acts as a role model in fostering students' language skills and positive behavior.
  • Provides observation and consultation, as needed, for teachers to reduce behavior concerns in the classroom.
  • Attends required training annually. At a minimum:
  • Four Behavior Redirector trainings per year as determined by the department/district.
  • New Behavior Redirectors must attend an additional orientation training.

DUTIES: In addition to the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must perform the following duties:

  • Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
  • Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
  • Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
  • Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
  • Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within area of responsibility.
  • Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Experience
Preferences include

  • Education Assistant Experience
  • Behavior Management Experience
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Licensure based on State Department of Education Regulation No. 90-5
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Experience with educational equipment preferred.
