Assistant Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides direction for the toddlers in the classroom, by creating enriching lessons that stimulate developmental growth and foster a welcoming environment where toddlers can thrive. Provides a quality experience for children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Assists in implementing curriculum within the established guidelines, including but not limited to literacy, arts, science, dramatic play and indoor/outdoor recreation. Use our parent communication app efficiently. 2. Assists in preparing and maintaining space and materials for classroom. 3. Assists in developing classroom centers that respond to the toddler's interests and are coordinated with the ongoing curriculum. 4. Work with parents to promote understanding, growth and development of their child. 5. Assists in supervising toddlers, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards. 6. Effectively communicates verbal, written and electronic reports to the parents and conducts parent/teacher conferences in accordance with center guidelines. 7. Maintains appropriate staff/child ratio at all times. 8. Responsible for the safety and well-being of each toddler, responding to their emotional needs; and maintaining an organized, clean, safe, and appropriately decorated classroom. 9. Assists in maintaining required program records, including CACFP. 10. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training. 11. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law.

2. 1 + years' experience leading an early childhood classroom preferred.

3. At least 18 years of age.

4. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.

5. Must have completed prior to first day of employment: Physical, TB test, Pre-employment drug screen, Background Check, Fingerprinting, Praesidium Child Abuse Prevention trainings and Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens.

6. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.

7. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.

8. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $15.00 per hour
