Exciting opportunity for an Engineer to join Cramer Fish Sciences in West Sacramento, CA This full-time position will support river restoration design and monitoring projects through engineering analysis, design development, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, field data collection, and the development of technical design drawings and graphics using AutoCAD/Civil 3D and GIS tools.

This position can be filled at either the Engineer I or Engineer II level depending on qualifications and experience. Engineers will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams on habitat enhancement, floodplain reconnection, and water resources projects. HOW TO APPLY:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop engineering drawings, plan sets, profiles, cross-sections, construction details, and technical graphics using AutoCAD/Civil 3D and GIS tools
  • Support or lead (depending on level) engineering design components for river and watershed restoration, water resources, and habitat enhancement projects
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and modeling for restoration and floodplain reconnection projects
  • Integrate geomorphic principles and habitat considerations into engineering designs
  • Collect and process field data, including topographic surveys, geomorphic assessments, stream habitat measurements, and construction observations
  • Prepare technical reports, design memoranda, permit applications, and presentations
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including ecologists, planners, regulatory specialists, and construction managers
  • Document, maintain, and refine CAD standards and workflows
  • Engineer II: Conduct quality assurance/quality control reviews of engineering deliverables and provide mentorship to junior staff
  • Engineer II: Lead development of design packages, participate in client meetings and stakeholder presentations

EDUCATION / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Engineer I:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or closely related discipline required
  • EIT required; PE welcome but not required
  • 2-5 years of design experience
  • Demonstrated experience supporting engineering analysis, CAD/GIS drafting, field data collection, and technical documentation
  • Experience with hydrology, hydraulics, geomorphology, and watershed processes is beneficial

Engineer II:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or closely related discipline required; master's degree in civil, environmental, or water resources engineering preferred
  • PE licensure or working toward Professional Engineer licensure
  • 5-10 years of design experience with demonstrated in-ground completed projects
  • Proven experience leading design tasks, managing interdisciplinary coordination, and delivering complex restoration or water resources projects
  • Strong background in hydrology, hydraulics, fluvial geomorphology, sediment transport, and ecological engineering

REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D for developing engineering drawings, plan sets, profiles, and cross-sections
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling software (HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, or similar) and/or hydrologic modeling software (HEC-HMS, HSPF, or similar)
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS or QGIS for geospatial data processing, terrain analysis, and map production
  • Understanding of restoration engineering principles, including river mechanics, sediment transport, channel design, and floodplain hydraulics
  • Experience with topographic survey methods such as bathymetric surveying, Real Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS, and/or Total Station
  • Familiarity with plan set production, technical specifications, and design documentation standards
  • Ability to track, manage, and prioritize workload and clearly communicate progress to project managers
  • Valid Driver's License

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be comfortable working in the aquatic environment including working from a boat platform, swimming and wading in rivers, streams, and lakes
  • Must be able to work effectively and drive safely in inclement weather, including hot, cold, rain, fog, and smoky conditions
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds
  • Work involves both indoor office settings and outdoor field environments
  • Flexible hours (including weekends and evenings) and travel to remote project sites for 2-3 days at a time

COMPENSATION:

Salary: $90,000 - $100,000/annually (dependent on experience)
