Assistant Manager – Second Chance Resale Store
Position Summary
Nassau Humane Society improves the lives of homeless animals in our community by providing them shelter and compassionate care. Our work focuses on adoption services, education about responsible pet ownership, and working to reduce animal overpopulation and homeless pets.
The Assistant Manager coordinates and directs all business activities at The Closet Boutique and Second Chance Resale Store. This includes leading and training the staff and volunteer teams, ordering supplies, implementing, and developing the sales and marketing plans to meet income targets and ensuring that the store complies with health and safety regulations.
This is a full-time role with some flexibility needed on occasion. The position reports directly to the Stores Director and will work closely with a second Assistant Manager. Second Chance Resale Stores support the mission of Nassau Humane Society with all proceeds going directly to help cats and dogs find their forever home.
Assistant Manager -Second Chance/The Closet Boutique will report directly to the Store Director.
Position Responsibilities
· Drive both donations (inventory and monetary) and sales to meet income targets.
· Lead, train, and develop staff and volunteers for Second Chance and The Closet Boutique.
· Help develop and lead implementation of strategic sales and marketing plans to achieve revenue objectives.
· Ensure that payroll remains within budget by assisting in making staff schedule, approving all timecards thereby ensuring staff have not worked over their allotted budgeted hours.
· Accepting Donations, Pricing and merchandising of incoming donations, including special items.
· Communicating with processing area on needs for the store inventory.
· Process and reconcile daily sales reports and deposits.
· Ensure safety and cleanliness of work / customer environment, alerting the Store Director of any necessary repairs and upkeep of internal and external property.
· Maintain excellent store conditions through branding, dynamic product presentation, organization, and store cleanliness. Follow OSHA and ADA regulations.
· Be knowledgeable about the mission of the Nassau Humane Society, upcoming events, and the services we provide in order to share pertinent information with volunteers, staff and customers.
· Schedule all donation pickup and delivery requests while focusing on store inventory needs and logistics coordination.
· Be aware of all rules and guidelines regarding what items SC will accept by donor drop-off or pick up at donor's requested location.
· Communicate with Driver/Donation Crew and route schedule ensuring they have all pertinent information regarding the day's pickups.
· Carefully inspect all potential furniture drop-offs before allowing the donor to bring furniture into the store. Ensure all accepted furniture/large items are in clean, gently used and in sellable condition. Ensure all furniture and large items on the floor are priced and free of dirt, dust, cobwebs etc.
· Ensure processed merchandise is being stocked on the sales floor by staff or volunteers in an expeditious manner. Coordinate with the processing team on inventory needed for the store on a daily basis.
· Work with Truck Crew team to place incoming furniture/large items on the floor, keeping in mind that it should have a "showroom aesthetic" and be accessible to customers and safely arranged.
Ensure racks are well stocked and zoned properly as well as signed and easy to shop.
Contribute to sales plan and overall look of the store.
Be sure windows are seasonally appropriate and decorated and displayed accordingly.
· Other duties as assigned by the Store Director.
Core Skills & Qualifications
· Experience in retail management and customer service principles and best practices.
· Knowledge of fashion and trends is helpful.
Excellent problem-solving, leadership and people management skills, including with volunteers.
· Proven record of ability to set and achieve financial and business goals, including proficiency in inventory control and pricing.
· Firm understanding of sales, promotions, trends, retail markets and merchandising.
· Motivated initiative-taker with great attitude, flexibility, and entrepreneurial spirit.
· Ability to balance working independently and manage time effectively.
· Ability to work in a demanding environment, prioritize tasks and manage workload effectively and efficiently.
· Strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
· Experience and good working knowledge of social media platforms and how to utilize them for retail marketing.
· Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite, have working knowledge of computers, printers and basic office hardware and software.

Pay: $17.50 per hour
