About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Backend Engineer specialized in Python within our AI Engineering: Agent Foundations team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in building and enhancing the foundational elements of our AI systems that automate tasks and boost productivity across development workflows. Your expertise will help shape the architecture of our scalable web platform, leveraging cutting-edge AI technologies, including large language models and prompt engineering. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design innovative solutions, contribute to testing infrastructures, and provide technical mentorship to engineers. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence product and engineering strategies, represent our team in technical discussions with customers, and participate in on-call rotations to ensure the stability and security of our AI-powered services.

Qualifications

• Multiple years of experience building Python web services in multi-service environments (e.g., FastAPI, Starlette)
• Proven ability to architect and lead complex technical projects from concept to production in distributed systems
• Strong experience with AI/ML technologies, including integration with large language models and prompt engineering
• Deep expertise in performance optimization for high-volume API systems
• Experience designing and building reliable, observable, and scalable distributed systems
• Ability to influence technical decisions and engineering strategy across teams
• Experience mentoring engineers and enhancing team technical capabilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for remote collaboration
• Ability to quickly learn new languages and frameworks as needed
• Experience with gRPC framework is a plus
• Experience with additional languages such as Go, TypeScript, Ruby, or IDE Extension development is a plus

Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code adhering to best practices and participating in code reviews
• Build and maintain a highly scalable web platform based on Python and gRPC, deployable across multiple environments
• Design and implement interactions with the latest large language models to enhance AI capabilities
• Contribute to testing infrastructure to verify agentic AI behaviors and ensure robustness
• Stay current with industry best practices, tools, and advancements in AI to continuously improve our software
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers within the team and collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Influence product and engineering decisions by proposing comprehensive, iterative solutions to complex challenges
• Engage with stakeholders and represent the team in technical discussions regarding AI-powered development features
• Participate in on-call rotations to troubleshoot and resolve product, security, and operational issues promptly
