PURPOSE: To provide leadership to Patrol Officers and to ensure guests, tenants and team members at Mall of America have a positive experience by providing unparalleled service related to emergency response, protection of life and property, loss prevention and guest relations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Lead Patrol Officers by motivating, scheduling, and coaching including issuing verbal warnings.
- Conduct roll call before each shift, sharing relevant information and facilitate roll call training to officers.
- Oversee inspections at Security check points and monitor explosive trace detection equipment.
- Supervise special events and Officers working including conducting crowd control or VIP protection.
- Enforce MOA rules and policies, as well as state and local statutes.
- Deter unwanted behavior by maintaining a highly visible patrol presence.
- Provide excellent guest service and maintain a professional, friendly manner in challenging situations.
- Assist guests with questions including giving directions and locating lost people or vehicles.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality, following MOA policy for sharing information when needed.
- Appropriately respond to emergency calls including medical emergencies, combative or disorderly guests, intoxicated persons, addressing persons committing illegal acts, and motor vehicle accidents.
- Write detailed and accurate reports as required, including incident, accident or personal injury reports.
- Ensure Officers' reports are completed in a timely manner.
- Utilize radio for clear and detailed communication with Dispatch, Supervisors, and other relevant staff.
- Regularly carry equipment including handcuffs, pepper spray, tactical baton, and a conducted electrical weapon (CEW).
- Request and assist Police, Fire or EMS services as necessary.
- Conduct periodic safety and fire inspections as assigned, issue parking violation tickets, conduct traffic direction as assigned.
- Monitor safety awareness practices among Mall staff and tenants and promptly identify and report any hazardous conditions according to procedure.
- Act as a Patrol FTO or Patrol Officer as needed.
- Work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, special events, high volume days, mandatory overtime and short notice special events.
- Additional duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- At least six months MOA Security experience.
- Successful completion of in-house physical and skills training program.
- Officers must withstand a full five-second exposure to a CEW and exposure to pepper spray.
- Excellent guest service skills.
- Able to remain calm in stressful situations, utilizing rational thinking and decision making.
- Excellent listening and written and verbal communication skills.
- Maintain an adequate level of physical fitness to perform duties of position effectively.
- Previous leadership experience preferred.
- Previous law enforcement or military experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of federal, state, and local law preferred.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the officer will frequently be required to speak and listen to guests to understand their needs and communicate a solution. Officer must possess a level of hearing that will continuously allow them to be aware of their surroundings and recognize when a guest needs their attention. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Officers are required to be able to tolerate multiple sensory stimuli at once while performing their duties. These stimuli may include: loud auditory/noise, smells/olfactory, bright lights, colors, motion, and other visual stimuli.

- Use of both hands is required to perform all duties and maintain safety standards
