We're creating the next generation of revenue intelligence, and our backend engineers are central to that mission. As a Backend Engineer at Gong, you'll take on impactful technical challenges, design systems at scale, and help build products that change how companies understand their customers.

We're seeking an experienced Java engineer who's enthusiastic about building high-performance systems, tackling complex problems, and delivering features with real impact.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services and APIs in Java, with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, and performance
• Own technical initiatives end to end — including architecture, implementation, deployment, and continuous improvement
• Partner with Product Managers, UX Designers, and Frontend Engineers to deliver solutions to real customer needs
• Investigate technical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions
• Contribute actively to the evolution of Gong's backend architecture as the platform scales

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with strong expertise in Java
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems, debug efficiently, and build high-quality systems
• Experience designing and operating cloud-based services (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including microservices architectures
• Bonus: experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, or data-centric APIs
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset — comfortable working across teams
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)

The annual base salary range for this role is $152,000 – $185,000 USD.

Compensation is determined by factors specific to each candidate, including job-related skills, qualifications, education, experience, and location. Gong uses a location-based compensation model, so ranges may vary by geography. In addition to base pay, total compensation may include incentive compensation, bonuses, equity, and benefits. Some sales compensation plans also provide the opportunity to exceed target earnings.
