About The Role
The Senior Manager, DevOps Engineer, People Leader at Capital One is a strategic leadership position responsible for overseeing a portfolio of diverse technology projects and leading a team of highly skilled DevOps professionals. This role involves driving the transformation of the company's cloud infrastructure, fostering innovation through emerging technologies, and ensuring the delivery of robust, scalable, and secure solutions. As a key member of the technology leadership team, the Senior Manager will collaborate closely with digital product managers, software engineers, and other stakeholders to develop and implement cloud-native solutions that empower millions of users and enhance their financial experiences. The role demands a proactive leader with a deep understanding of DevOps practices, cloud platforms, and modern infrastructure tools, capable of guiding teams through complex technical challenges and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A minimum of 6 years of experience in DevOps engineering is required, with at least 4 years dedicated to working with cloud-native technologies such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform. Proven expertise in Unix or Linux system administration for at least 6 years is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 4 years of people management experience, demonstrating strong leadership capabilities. Preferred qualifications include over 9 years of DevOps experience, extensive coding and scripting skills in languages such as Python, SQL, Java, JavaScript, Golang, Bash, Perl, or Ruby, and significant experience in infrastructure design, implementation, and delivery. Familiarity with monitoring tools like Splunk or Zabbix, container orchestration platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes, and Agile development practices will be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of DevOps engineers and oversee a diverse portfolio of technology projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives.
- Drive cloud infrastructure initiatives by designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and secure solutions using AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Mentor and develop team members through coaching, technical guidance, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Collaborate with digital product managers and cross-functional teams to develop innovative cloud-based applications and services that enhance customer experiences.
- Stay current with emerging technology trends, participate in industry communities, and experiment with new tools and methodologies to improve DevOps practices.
- Evaluate and code or review code to ensure best practices, security, and performance standards are met.
- Implement automation and orchestration solutions using tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, and Terraform to streamline deployment processes.
- Establish and monitor system health metrics using tools such as Splunk or Zabbix, ensuring high availability and performance of critical systems.
- Promote Agile methodologies within the team to facilitate iterative development, rapid deployment, and continuous feedback loops.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate project progress effectively across various levels of the organization.
