The Mechanical Design Engineer provides technical leadership and engineering support for steam turbine service, repairs, upgrades, and engineering studies.
This role supports outage planning and execution, complex repair projects, and engineering deliverables while ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
The position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams and customers to deliver technically sound and timely solutions.
Responsibilities
Provide technical guidance to field engineers and service managers during outage planning and execution of steam turbine projects.
Lead complex service center repairs on rotors, diaphragms, casings, valves, and related components.
Act as the single point of contact and technical interface for complex repair projects with cross-functional teams.
Ensure on-time delivery of engineering deliverables and compliance with technical requirements.
Lead steam turbine projects involving capital parts, upgrades, engineering studies, and valve solutions.
Apply lean methodologies to support daily management, engineering execution, and continuous improvement with focus on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Develop inspection and test plans for site assembly, disassembly, and service center repair activities.
Lead and participate in product qualification processes, design reviews, and technical risk discussions with internal teams and customers.
Provide technical recommendations during outage planning to internal and external stakeholders.
Support parts engineering and sourcing teams with technical guidance on design, form, fit, and function.
Review and disposition product or process non‑conformances and support corrective and preventive actions through root cause analysis.
Collaborate with sales, service, field, repair, and engineering teams to provide technical direction.
Serve as a technical resource to less experienced colleagues and lead small, low-risk projects as required.
Requirement/Must Have
Strong technical knowledge of steam turbine systems and balance of plant operations.
Experience with steam turbine rotating and stationary component inspection and repair methods.
Ability to support steam turbine disassembly, assembly, startup, and operational activities.
Experience
Minimum of five years of experience in steam turbine service engineering.
Minimum of two years of field execution experience, preferably within the power generation industry.
Should Have
Experience with lean methodologies and continuous improvement practices.
Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and complex engineering projects.
Skills
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Proven analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
Project management and planning skills.
Qualification And Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
