The Role You’ll join our clients Platform team. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you’ll design and build world‑class services and APIs that are reliable, scalable, and performant. You’ll be working closely with engineers and product teams to improve existing technologies and create brand‑new applications, while mentoring junior developers and contributing to engineering best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with engineers to deliver business requirements and technical improvements.
Take ownership of key systems and projects, driving them from design to delivery.
Break down complex problems into achievable, prioritised tasks.
Build robust, performant systems with a focus on scalability and resilience.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative team culture.
Apply engineering best practices to ensure system quality and maintainability.
Essential Criteria
Proven experience writing clean, maintainable, production‑grade code in a modern programming language.
Proficiency in server‑side JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js).
Strong understanding of system architecture and the downstream effects of code changes.
General knowledge of content databases (NoSQL experience advantageous).
Experience in fullstack development.
Ability to implement unit, integration, and functional tests.
Adaptable and open to learning new tools, technologies, and frameworks.
Strong communication skills and team‑oriented mindset.
Bonus Points For
Experience working with web APIs.
Familiarity with CI/CD processes.
Experience in Golang.
Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
Previous experience in the media, publishing, or content delivery space.
Tech Stack You’ll Work With
JavaScript/TypeScript (with some Golang).
MongoDB and other content databases.
AWS (including Lambda, SNS/SQS).
Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes (EKS).
Additional responsibilities include cache management, data syncing and denormalisation, and third‑party integrations.
