Ten Lives Club is a 501(c)3 non-profit cat shelter in Western New York with 19 additional adoption locations. Our organization is dedicated to reducing the number of cats euthanized each year due to overpopulation and lack of space in shelters. Since our creation in 2001, we have saved the lives of or assisted with over 45,000 cats through rescue and our adoption program. Our location cares for strays, surrenders and adoptions. Also, we offer a community clinic for affordable spay/neuters.
Ten Lives Club is looking for a full-time veterinary assistant for our existing team that includes a veterinarian, vet technicians and vet assistants.
Job Description:
MUST love or really like cats Can not have any type of allergies to cats. Some responsibilities include but are not limited to, animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collect and analysis of lab samples and administration of medications. Communicate effectively regarding treatment plans with clients. Surgical preparation and assist other veterinary staff when necessary. You may be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious disease.
We are looking for:
- Someone with a high work ethic and positive attitude team member.
- A punctual person who is dependable.
- A minimum of 1 year experience.
- Must have weekend availability.
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to communicate precisely.
- Must be compassionate, calm under pressure, team player, multi-tasker, and be a strong communicator.
- Ability to interpret medical records and document client history accurately.
- Have knowledge in preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital flow.
- Ability to restrain cats in a manner that is safe and low stress.
- Help collect samples including blood, urine, fecal and skin.
- Monitor and care for animals
- Provide daily medication, check temperature and care for sick cats under direction of an LVT or Veterinarian
- Answering phone calls, responding to voicemails, schedule appointments and answer questions.
- Light filing, computer entry of files into our shelter program (ShelterLuv).
- Clean and disinfect kennels, carries, and examining/operating areas.
- Maintain and sterilizer surgical instruments and equipment.
- Reliable transportation required.
Job specifics:
- Full time position
- Pay range: $17 to $18 an hour (commensurate with experience)
- Veterinary Assistants have a regular schedule of no more than 40 hours a week. Some weekends are required. Exact days for schedule will be dependent on applicant skills.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and handle cats and kittens of varying sizes, bending, stooping, standing, and walking daily. Must be able to perform strenuous manual labor.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time while performing work requiring concentration and manual dexterity.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
