Job Summary
Aegis Cognis LLCis seeking a highly skilled Weapons Engineer with CNC manufacturing expertiseto support the design, development, prototyping, and production of precision weapon system components. This role blends advanced mechanical engineering with hands-on CNC machining. Must ensure designs are manufacturable, repeatable, and compliant with all applicable safety and regulatory standards. A SIGNED NDA IS REQUIRED BEFORE JOB DISCUSSION.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable in CAD/CAE environments, as well as on the shop floor. Must be capable of translating complex engineering concepts into high-quality machined parts.
Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering & Design
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for weapon systems and related platforms
- Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and manufacturability reviews
- Create detailed engineering drawings and GD&T specifications
- Support prototype development, testing, validation, and iterative design improvements
- Collaborate with electrical, software, and systems engineers as part of cross-functional teams
CNC & Manufacturing
- Program, set up, and operate CNC milling and turning machines (3-axis to 5-axis)
- Develop and optimize CAM toolpaths for efficiency, accuracy, and surface finish
- Select tooling, fixtures, and cutting strategies appropriate for aerospace- and defense-grade materials
- Troubleshoot machining issues and implement continuous process improvements
- Support low-rate and full-rate production builds
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure designs and manufacturing processes comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
- Work closely with quality teams to support inspections, first-article validation, and corrective actions
- Maintain detailed documentation, revision control, and configuration management
- Support internal and external audits as required
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and precision manufacturing
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or equivalent)
- Strong experience with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, NX CAM)
- Hands-on experience with CNC mills and lathes
- Deep understanding of GD&T, tolerances, and precision machining
- Experience machining steels, aluminum alloys, stainless steels, and exotic materials
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and specifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in defense, aerospace, or other regulated manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with ASME, ISO, and military standards
- Experience with prototype-to-production transitions
- Knowledge of metrology tools and inspection processes
- Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma experience
