Job Description:

The Small Business Advocacy Council (SBAC) advocates on behalf of small businesses and local businesses, provides educational programming and fosters connectivity and business development. We also focus on neighborhood revitalization, collaborating with partnering chambers and place-based organizations on those efforts. The SBAC works at all levels of government on policies that will support and level the playing field for the small business community while also creating spaces for businesses to connect and collaborate.

About the Role

We're looking for a creative, tech-savvy, and community-minded Communications Coordinator to tell our story, grow our visibility, and strengthen relationships with small business owners, partners, and local leaders.

This is a dynamic role for someone who loves social media, content creation, making connection, building programs, and supporting local businesses. No two days are the same — one day you might be creating a campaign about small business grants, and the next you're connecting with entrepreneurs at a neighborhood event.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing & Communications

Develop and execute creative marketing campaigns that highlight our mission, programs, and local business stories

Create and post engaging content across our social media platforms

Write and design newsletters, flyers, and website updates to keep our community informed and inspired

Track engagement metrics to grow our audience and refine our messaging

Website & Tech Updates

Community outreach and networking

Represent the organization at Chicago small business events, markets, and community gatherings

Support planning, promotion, and on-site coordination for workshops, networking events, and advocacy campaigns

Establish and monitor programs

Qualifications

Experience with marketing, communications, or community outreach

Experience with social media planning and engagement

Fluency with tools like Canva, WordPress, Office Suite (or similar).

Capacity to attend in-person events in the Chicago area

Preferred (but not required:

WordPress and HubSpot experience – Highly preferred

Photography, short-form video, or graphic design experience.

Basic SEO or web analytics knowledge.

Experience in public policy communications
