The CNC Machine Operator A operates numerical control machines to fabricate parts. Loads parts in the machine, cycles the machine, and detects malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools. Runs production lots, communicates with co-workers regarding production runs, and maintains a safe, organized, and clean work environment. Must take necessary action to minimize delay time and maximize production.
What You'll Do:
- Operates a variety of CNC machines programmed to perform a variety of machining operations, including drilling, reaming, tapping, boring, milling, profiling, turning, and honing.
- Responsible for setting up, performing, and documenting all of their own tool changes.
- Capable of doing minor machine set-ups, approved program modifications, and assisting in the setup and proving out of new product launches.
- Manually cycle machine checks tooling, fixture, and/or work alignment, clearances, offsets, and makes periodic adjustments to bring tolerance and finish requirements within specifications.
- Capable of working from complex drawings, manufacturing processes, manufacturing specifications, inspection instructions, and other visual instructions as required.
- Use inspection equipment (functional gauging, micrometers, electronic and/or air gauges, calipers, surface finish gauges, height and depth indicators, etc.) to check work.
- Recognizes and reports variations in part quality and adjusts within prescribed limits.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work environment and must adhere to all Grede LLC safety policies.
- Must have a working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) procedures and applications.
- Must be able to fill out all required documentation, react to adverse quality trends, and perform miscellaneous duties as directed by a person of higher authority.
- Responsible for training level C and B operators when assigned.
- Performs miscellaneous work assignments as directed.
- Must maintain a good attendance record.

What We Need from You:
- Education and/or Experience: One year certificate from college or technical school; six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Language Skills: Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide by 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
