ROLE OF THE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR
The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a key role in advancing our volunteer engagement and impact strategy by helping curate meaningful, modern, and accessible experiences that educate and connect stakeholders. This position supports the recruitment, stewardship, and activation of volunteers year-round, including Day of Caring, community tabling, parades, and emerging volunteer opportunities, ensuring participants are connected with actionable needs in our community and recognizing TAUW as a central resource for local volunteerism.
In collaboration with team members, the Coordinator strengthens TAUW's ability to reach new donors, sponsors, and community partners by executing organized outreach efforts, managing sponsorship processes, and helping deliver compelling experiences that highlight our mission with clarity and transparency. By supporting affinity groups, building relationships, and maintaining accurate data and membership systems, this role helps drive multi-channel engagement and fosters deeper connections with both current and prospective supporters.
Through the planning and support of initiatives such as affinity group events, Living Wage simulations, and other signature engagement experiences, the Coordinator helps empower and educate donors, volunteers, and local leaders. This role ensures participants have access to world-class, transformative experiences that inspire lifelong involvement and amplify the collective impact of our community.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Volunteer Engagement Specialist with Day of Caring event execution, including community outreach, relationship-building, partnership growth, and volunteer recruitment.
- Provide year-round stewardship support of all volunteers, ensuring consistent communication, appreciation, and engagement.
- Identify and develop ongoing volunteer opportunities outside of Day of Caring to expand community involvement.
- Coordinate and organize parade participation, including logistics, planning, and staff/volunteer involvement.
- Oversee the organizational tabling process and staff tables at community events to increase visibility and engagement.
- Serve as the process owner for managing the organizational sponsorship process, including tracking commitments and executing action plans.
- Support the NextGen United affinity group by planning and delivering "connection" events that drive engagement.
- Manage membership lists, data, and communication for all affinity groups; engage both current and prospective members.
- Support the Donor Engagement and Events Specialist with planning and executing Living Wage simulations throughout the year.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, public administration, or a related field; equivalent work experience considered.
- Experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, events, development, or related nonprofit work.
- Experience supporting large-scale volunteer events, outreach initiatives, or community-based programs.
- Prior experience managing data, CRM systems, or membership databases preferred.
- Experience with relationship-building across diverse groups, including volunteers, donors, partners, and community organizations.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage stakeholders across generations and backgrounds.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent TAUW in community-facing settings.
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also taking initiative and working independently.
- Comfort with public speaking, facilitation, and staffing high-visibility events.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through, especially in data entry and process management.
- Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced or changing environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable learning new technology systems; familiarity with CRM or volunteer management software is a plus.
Working Conditions
- Day-to-day work will be conducted in an office setting.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for off-site engagements.
- TAUW hosts multiple events throughout the year which are held in both indoor and outdoor locations.
- Working evenings and weekend hours is necessary due to after-hours and volunteer schedules; however, the regular workweek schedule at TAUW is 37.5 hours, taking this into consideration.
- Interactions beyond staff include communications with volunteers, donors, leaders and staff of nonprofit organizations, board, cabinet, and committee members, and the general public.
