We are seeking a highly skilled Spring Extension Machine Operator to join our production team. This role requires advanced mechanical knowledge, hands-on experience with CNC or mechanical spring-coiling equipment, and the ability to produce precision extension springs to exact specifications. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, safety-focused, and capable of maintaining tight production tolerances while optimizing efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
Machine Setup & Operation
- Set up, calibrate, and operate CNC or mechanical spring coiling machines for extension spring production.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, engineering notes, and wire specifications to meet customer requirements.
- Adjust tooling, pitch, hooks, mandrels, cutters, and other machine components to ensure accurate production.
- Monitor machine performance and make micro-adjustments to maintain product consistency.
Quality Control & Inspection
- Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, gauges, load testers, and optical measuring tools.
- Maintain tight tolerances and ensure products meet all quality standards.
- Identify defects and take corrective action to prevent rework or scrap.
CNC/Machine Programming
- Create, modify, and optimize machine programs for new spring types and production runs.
- Apply knowledge of feed rates, cam timing, servo adjustments, and tooling offsets to achieve the desired product characteristics.
Maintenance & Safety
- Follow all safety protocols for wire-forming machinery, tools, and production processes.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, lubrication, tooling changes, and cleaning.
- Identify wear patterns, tooling issues, or mechanical concerns and coordinate timely repairs or replacements.
Production Efficiency
- Select appropriate materials such as wire types, diameters, and coatings based on job specifications.
- Optimize cycle times, reduce scrap, and support continuous productivity improvements.
- Track production data, maintain accurate setup sheets, and document performance metrics.
Problem-Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Troubleshoot issues such as wire breakage, pitch inconsistencies, mis-coils, and incorrect hook forms.
- Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective-action activities.
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives, including 5S, waste reduction, and Kaizen improvements.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to support the development of new spring designs.
Communication & Documentation
- Maintain clear and accurate production logs, inspection records, and setup documentation.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance, engineering, and quality departments regarding production status or issues.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience operating spring extension, torsion, or compression coiling machines (CNC or mechanical).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and measurement specifications.
- Experience with CNC programming for spring-coiling equipment preferred.
- Proficient with precision measurement tools.
- Strong attention to detail, safety-first mindset, and ability to work independently.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
- Manual dexterity to work with small tools, wires, and precision components.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing/production floor with exposure to machinery, noise, and metal materials.
- Proper PPE required and provided.
