This position is responsible for providing general building and grounds support, assisting in environmental compliance programs, and assisting the plant manager with the implementation and maintenance of comprehensive health and safety programs in the facility.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:00pm
Responsibilities
- Inspect interior and exterior building structures to assure functionality of systems, identify and make repairs, document actions and activities, and make recommendations to the Plant/Facilities Manager.
- Perform minor plumbing maintenance, such as replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains.
- Operate water and waste-water treatment systems, including documenting meter-reads, changing filter media, conducting water quality testing, etc.
- Conduct and document prescribed testing of fire protection systems, life-safety systems, and emergency response equipment.
- Perform office moves, furniture assembly/disassembly, and installs.
- Evaluate, prepare, and paint structures, surfaces, and equipment.
- Complete preventative maintenance tasks for building systems.
- Perform general cleaning and maintenance of the interior and exterior of facilities, including grounds keeping & snow removal.
- Assist with documentation and monitoring of the site's safety policies and procedures outlined in the Safety Program Manual.
- Conduct, routine inspections and safety audits of our safety policies and procedures as well as the physical site.
- Conduct training on safety and related issues, prioritized per the annual EHS safety plan, OSHA regulations, and company policies.
- Schedule and coordinate annual testing requirements as defined by the EHS safety plan and OSHA requirements, such as respirator certification, hearing testing, etc.
- Conduct routine Industrial Hygiene testing, as directed by regional EHS Manager.
- Provide assistance to supervisors and hourly employees on safety related matters.
- Support plant management in the investigation and follow-up of accidents, near misses, and other safety concerns.
- Maintain a degree of awareness and understanding of government regulations, new developments, etc. in the field of safety.
- Adhere to all company policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Must have a general knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, HVAC systems; electrical or mechanical licensure preferred.
- Must have experience using and be able to perform tasks safely with power tools.
- Must be capable of multi-tasking and working both as a team and independently.
- Must be well organized and have a strong attention to detail.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate courtesy, tact, and confidentiality when dealing with people in various positions and levels, both internally and externally.
- Must be able to read and understand blueprints.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Office and basic computer operations
- Must have valid driver's license
- Must be willing and able to operate forklifts, material handling equipment, and scissors/boom lifts.
Education and Experience
- Must have a high school diploma or GED; two-year associate's degree in a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have 3-5 years facilities maintenance or comparable experience.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Working conditions may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, and risk of electric shock and non-hazardous chemical agents, and working both inside and outside.

- Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl,
- Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls
- Talk and hear to coordinate and operate equipment
- Use of safety equipment as dictated by the work (safety glasses, safety shoes, respirators, face shields, hearing protection, gloves, etc.)
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts
- Sit, type, and look at a computer screen
Frequently
- Lift and/or move up to 60 pounds
Occasionally
- Handle (with mechanical equipment) up to 250 pounds.
- Exposure to noise levels above the OSHA action level requiring use of hearing protection
- Work at elevated heights of approximately 30 feet
Occasional travel to other locations may be required.
