EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
High School Diploma or Equivalent

Five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.

PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Responsible for the installation, service, repair, troubleshooting, maintenance and inspections on an array of building access and security access hardware and software. Systems include, but are not limited to interior and exterior structures, student and athletic lockers, wood, metal and all other material used for personnel access doors, windows, gates, garage doors, kitchen equipment, walk-in coolers, cash registers, computers, vehicles, folding partitions/curtains, ladders, hatches and any devices supporting the American Disabilities Act (ADA).

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for the installation, modification, retrofit, repair, adjustment, lubrication and general maintenance of an array of building locking systems.

  1. Routinely works on and around the following systems: entrance locking mechanisms to include Access Control systems, mortise, cylinder, dead bolt and latching systems; office and classroom locksets; desk and file cabinet locking devices; interchangeable core style systems; supplying and cutting all necessary keys to District locksets and maintains a current key inventory of assigned individual keysets.

  2. Plans and accomplishes work from initial layout to final assembly which involves interpreting and applying building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and manufacturer's instructions.

  3. Determines the methods, techniques, materials, devices, and sequences best suited to the work.

  4. Writes and integrates new master key systems while maintaining existing master keying systems.

  5. Figures pin combinations using approved math formulas standardized throughout industry.

  6. Completes work by any of the accepted methods and techniques of the trade, i.e., fabricates odd size jointing parts and improvises installations when blue prints and sketches do not provide or fail to show data to do the work.

  7. Plans and insures the proper action, mounting angle, degree of bracing and security, design functionality and quality of devices installed.

  8. Responsible for independently assessing the work situation on site, determining the best method of accomplishment and taking the necessary corrective action while following accepted safety practices.

  9. Performs shop and industrial housekeeping practices that are in the areas associated with the systems being maintained.

  10. Operates and maintains controlled keyways and key blanks for MDF and IDF rooms.

  11. Maintains bitting and key schedule listing with codes needed for making keys and location of said keys.

  12. Consults with supervisor as needed relative to interpretation of guidance, and extent of work authorized if work requires more than the number of hours allowed by the maintenance service order.

  13. Operates, installs hardware, troubleshoots and maintains keyless access control systems including proximity readers and proximity decoders.

  14. Performs installation of access control systems, cylinders, deadbolt and latching systems.

  15. Operates and maintains Locksoft, Basis Five, Keystone, Locknetics and Continental software programs.

  16. Maintains and changes safe and vault combination locks.

  17. Operates from and maintains a neatly stocked panel van service vehicle.

  18. Ensures good housekeeping, health and safety practices are utilized.

  19. Responsible for securing and maintaining all assigned personal tools, equipment and Districts' vehicles in serviceable and order.

  20. Maintains confidentiality of all information.

  21. Frequently required to drive District vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks.

  22. Reports to work on time every day.

  23. Follows District safety guidelines.

  24. Performs additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination to include vision, hearing, alcohol and drug testing

  • Broad professional knowledge of the installation, modification and repair of all locking systems used in and around educational facilities
  • Expert knowledge of the trade practices used in building locking systems installation, repair and maintenance
  • Proficient in structural layout, diagnosis of problems, touch-up painting techniques, troubleshooting internal and external locking problems, the proper use of power driven devices for the shaping and cutting tools to perform structural modifications - knowledge must be coupled with well-rounded field experience to perform effective inspections, identify operations and perform diagnostics on mechanical systems and fixtures
  • Good communication skills to discuss and define issues of mechanical and electrical issues with appropriate supervisory personnel and/or school administrators
  • Ability to read project plans for new or remodeled areas related to position and recommend application practices is required
  • Ability to work closely with other trades for layout of new or replacement of existing equipment
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with driving record that meets the requirements of the District

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance. The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level is usually moderate.
