ASSISTANT STORE MANAGERS are the foundation of our summer crew Whether coaching staff, assisting customers, or solving problems, they are a huge part of the team Flexible training dates in May, start date Memorial Weekend hrs/wk to start, increasing to mid-June through mid-July, returning to 30-40 hrs/wk mid-July. Position ends Friday before Labor Day. This is a physically demanding, seasonal position that required long hours on your feet and the ability to thrive when faced with physical and mental challenges. Retail experience required, managerial experience a plus.

Training Dates: Flexible May 1 – May 17

Required Availability: 5/23-5/25, 6/13-6/14, 6/24-7/10, 7/13-7/17

Job Type: Seasonal hrs/wk to start, increasing to mid-June through mid-July, returning to 30-40 hrs/wk mid-July. Position ends Friday before Labor Day. Casual work may be available outside of those dates.

Pay: $23/hr

Training Pay: $18/hr

Benefits: +$2 select weekends, +$3 select dates, +1/hr Fireworks Forever alumni, overtime (time and one half), paid training, free uniforms, bonus opportunities, staff raffle, employee discount, firework giveaway.

Schedule: Unpredictable. Weekdays, weekends, holidays, required overtime, short/no notice to fill shifts and as required to meet business demands.

Basic Requirements: 19 years or older by start date, retail experience, open availability (able to work unpredictable hours and fill shifts on short/no notice to meet business demands), background check. Full requirements and job description below.

The primary functions of an Assistant Store Manager are to support the store and its staff, and assist customers by:

  • Maintaining day-to-day store operations

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform the following Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintaining day-to-day store operations

  • Maintaining hours of operation and opening/closing
  • Leading the store by carrying out directives from Store Manager
  • Maintaining organizational systems
  • Maintaining outstanding customer service, loss prevention, and quality control
  • Ensuring operational efficiency by actively managing operational guidelines related to payroll
  • Managing store transactions at the register level
  • Maintaining expected store inventory and supply levels
  • Maintaining outstanding store condition and visual merchandising standards
  • Seeking ways to better promote the store, product lines, and service within the store
  • Executing marketing strategies and promotions from Store Manager
  • Managing store activities as assigned by Store Manager
  • Supervising a team of up to 20 people
  • Supervising employee and performance including but not limited to attendance, growth opportunities, and documentation
  • Responding to complaints and concerns in a professional manner
  • Maintaining an organized and healthy work environment
  • Monitoring equipment, facility/property, and related supplies to meet and/or exceed industry, health, and safety standards
  • Monitoring weather conditions before and during work hours, taking action as necessary
  • Actively participating in Store Management Team functions
  • Developing and presenting ideas for improving the efficiency of business processes and procedures to enhance speed, quality, efficiency, and output to the Store Manager
  • Continuously and positively promoting the Company and its merchandise
  • Performing other duties based on business needs

Supervising and assisting staff non-staff

  • Assessing customer and staff needs and providing assistance and information on products
  • Participating in trainings, team building, meetings, and personal development
  • Coaching and playing a hands-on roll in staff development by executing vision, goals, and feedback aimed at continuously building the talent pipeline
  • Coaching staff how to drive sales through consistent development of product knowledge and customer service standards
  • Developing and presenting strategies to maximize staff knowledge, efficiency, and retention to Store Manager
  • Participating in job-related equipment training
  • Participating in emergency procedures training
  • Enforcing rules, policies, and procedures; terminating/evicting violators when justifiable
  • Educating staff and non-staff on the safe, respectful, responsible, and legal use of our merchandise

Maximizing Company Profit and minimizing expenses without compromising safety

  • Facilitating maximum through-put
  • Developing and presenting strategies to maximize sales and customer retention to Store Manager
  • Managing all controllable costs with a view to maintaining profitability

Maintaining proper security measures

  • Building and maintaining a safe and positive work culture
  • Enforcing loss prevention techniques
  • Protecting Company assets
  • Monitoring compliance with safety standards
  • Monitoring and enforcing security systems/measures
  • Ensuring all signage, warnings and otherwise, relevant to security and property access is in place, clean, understandable, accurate, and up-to-date

Maintaining compliance with all legal, health, and safety guidelines for retail consumer fireworks facilities and properties

  • Executing and maintaining compliance directives from Store Manager

Communication related to the Store

  • Communicating effectively
  • Executing store communication systems
  • Assisting store leadership with monitoring and responding to store phone, voicemail, text, and email
  • Identifying current and future customer requirements by establishing rapport with potential and actual customers to understand service requirements
  • Reporting to supervisor regarding buying trends and customer needs
  • Developing and presenting recommendations to supervisor
  • Working with cross-functional teams such as other Assistant Store Managers to provide timely and responsible outcomes to needs and requests
  • Networking and establishing a positive and professional rapport with potential and actual staff, customers, and organizations in a position to influence Company reputation

  • Providing and nourishing feedback from all levels of the organization to continuously improve the business
  • Achieving and maintaining excellent knowledge of retail best practices, Company's systems, equipment, facility/property layout
  • Participating in staff meetings, trainings, and growth opportunities as needed

Qualifications

Age, Education and/or Experience Requirement

  • 19 years of age or older
  • High School Degree, 2+ years post-secondary education preferred
  • Leadership experience

Computer Skills

  • Ability to navigate in a Microsoft Windows environment
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot Point-Of-Sale register systems
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot electronic devices including smart phones, tablets, and computers using all major platforms
  • Ability to use higher level functions of electronic mail, text messages, required apps
  • Ability to quickly learn and confidently operate additional computer systems, software, and hardware essential to business function

The physical demands described here are representative of those which are deemed necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, a person is regularly and/or repeatedly required to: stand, walk, stoop, kneel, pull, push, crouch, or crawl; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; assemble and set up fixtures; regularly lift 50+ pounds and/or move 90+ pounds; talk and hear; for prolonged periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include short and long-distance vision and depth perception. Work may take place indoors or outdoors. Extreme changes in temperature. Moderate to high levels of noise. Exposure to lift truck traffic. Exposure to stress related to meeting strict deadlines. Events and seasonality may require many 14+ hour shifts in a row.  Weather and emergency related issues may require prolonged periods of work.
