GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of routine administrative and shift supervisory duties as needed to maintain the shift
operations and services of the city aquatics facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Promotes and follows the City's mission statement, values and expectations.
In the absence of the Aquatics Manager, the incumbent will assure compliance with established policies and
procedures for patron surveillance, rotations, interaction with patrons, and provides direct
correction/instruction to the staff.
Directly responsible for the supervision, training and scheduling of all part-time staff; assures compliance with
established policies and procedures for selling concessions, admitting patrons, working with vendors,
managing counter displays, etc.
Responsible for assisting with the planning, organization, coordination, promotion, and facilitating of special
events; maintains and distributes current listings of upcoming events within and outside the City for distribution
to employees, staff, news media, and educational institutions.
Assures shifts are properly staffed; conducts training; monitors shift personnel work activities to assure quality
and efficient performance of duties; performs schedule follow-up as needed to assure arrival of instructors;
secures substitute personnel as needed and fills in for absent staff if necessary.
Monitors swimming and recreation facility programs and services; distributes swim training information and
distributes to swimming and training instructors.
Monitors facility policies and procedures related to patron use, fees, safety, etc.; oversees shift activities to
assure compliance with management control plans as needed to minimize risk and liability.
Performs general bookkeeping and accounting; processes all pool receipts, including fees and concession
revenues; balances shift revenues with receipts and tape records; monitors proper handling of cash receipts;
records work hours, submits time sheets; manages shift revenues and prepares deposits.
Functions as the shift supervisor as needed, determined by the Aquatics Manager.
Ensure staff perform general upkeep and custodial duties during scheduled shift; cleans facility floors, mops,
sweeps, vacuums, polishes, etc.; cleans pool decks; monitors water temperatures and chemical balances,
takes water samples; may make minor equipment adjustments to assure proper temperature and chemical
standards.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and Experience:
A. Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and
related duties; specialized training and certification (Red Cross) as a Lifeguard and a Water
Safety Instructor. Bachelor's degree in recreation or related field preferred:
AND
B. Two (2) years of supervisory experience related to aquatics facilities, safe swimming, swim
team participation or related background;
OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of methods and techniques of water safety and swimming instruction; of the rules
and regulations of a variety of swimming sports and recreational activities; basic mathematics related
to cashiering and changing money; hazards and precautions associated with chlorine and related
pool chemicals; water safety practices, rules and guidelines; first aide, CPR; swimming instruction
techniques. Some knowledge of water sampling procedures.
Ability to plan, organize and develop swimming lesson programs and plans; demonstrate advance
swimming skills; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, young
people, ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. As well as an ability to provide
discipline consistent with city policy to employees when necessary.
- Special Qualifications:
Must have (or obtain) lifeguard certification, WSI, first aid and CPR certification within 3 months of
hire.
Must have (or obtain) lifeguard instructor certification, within 6 months of hire.
Certified Pool Operator license preferred but not required.
Must have (or obtain) Davis County Food Handlers Permit within 6 months of hire.
