About the Role
A publicly traded company in Frisco is seeking a highly skilled
Controller
to lead the accounting function, strengthen financial reporting processes, and support operational and strategic decision-making. This individual will oversee all aspects of corporate accounting, SEC reporting, internal controls, and technical accounting while partnering closely with leadership across Finance, Operations, and Audit.
The ideal candidate brings strong public company experience, exceptional leadership capabilities, and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Close & Reporting
- Lead and manage all monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements in accordance with
U.S. GAAP
. - Own consolidation, variance analysis, and management reporting packages.
- Oversee preparation of schedules and documentation supporting external audits.
SEC & Compliance
- Oversee
SEC reporting
(10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) and related disclosures. - Ensure compliance with
SOX
, internal controls, and corporate governance requirements. - Maintain and enhance internal control frameworks; drive remediation efforts where needed.
Technical Accounting
- Research and implement new accounting standards.
- Prepare technical memos for complex accounting topics (revenue recognition, leases, equity, stock comp, etc.).
- Serve as subject matter expert for accounting guidance and policy application.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
- Establish clear processes, workflows, and expectations to support scalability.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Operational & Strategic Support
- Partner with FP&A, Operations, and other functional leaders to provide financial insights.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow management.
- Evaluate accounting impacts of strategic initiatives, M&A activity, or system implementations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance
required;
CPA strongly preferred
. - 8–15+ years
of progressive accounting experience. - Strong preference for:
- Public company experience
- Big 4 or large public accounting foundation
- Prior leadership of accounting teams
- Experience with SEC reporting and SOX compliance
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and technical accounting.
- Excellent communication skills, executive presence, and ability to work cross-functionally.
