Role Overview

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer, you'll architect and develop production-grade solutions across Shep's evolving platform ecosystem. You'll lead the design and implementation of scalable systems that power retail media networks, data intelligence pipelines, and omnichannel integrations.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who lives at the intersection of Java/Kotlin, Python, , and relational data systems (MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL) — with an instinct for performance optimization, code quality, and security at every layer.

You will collaborate with product, data, and operations teams to translate complex business needs into elegant, maintainable, and measurable technical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, Develop & Deploy: Design and deliver full-stack applications using Java/Kotlin (backend), (frontend), and Python (data-driven integrations).
• Code Craftsmanship: Write high-quality, scalable, and secure code. Conduct peer reviews, enforce code quality standards, and maintain zero-tolerance for untested code.
• System Architecture: Contribute to system design and data architecture decisions, focusing on modularity, performance, and reliability under production loads.
• Data-Driven Development: Collaborate with the CTO, engineering, and data teams to integrate APIs, develop ETL pipelines, and optimize database schemas for analytics and playback telemetry.
• DevSecOps: Implement CI/CD pipelines and automation using GitHub Actions and Docker/AWS Fargate. Ensure code integrity and security throughout SDLC.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product management, UX, and QA to co-create and iterate rapidly.
• Incremental Delivery: Drive feature delivery in short, measurable cycles — favoring evidence over speculation, and performance over perfection.
• Mentorship & Technical Leadership: Guide junior and mid-level developers. Advocate for engineering excellence, test coverage, and continuous learning.
• Operational Ownership: Support deployed systems through proactive monitoring, on-call rotation, and continuous performance optimization.
• Innovation & Exploration: Evaluate and experiment with emerging tools, frameworks, and patterns that can evolve Shep's tech stack and developer productivity.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of full-stack development, including large-scale backend systems and modern web applications.
• Languages & Frameworks: Java (Spring Boot), Kotlin, React, , TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, Python, SQL (MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL).
• Architecture & Design: Proven experience with microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven design.
• Cloud & Containers: Hands-on experience with AWS (or equivalent), Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform.
• Version Control: Strong Git/GitHub expertise and experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Testing: Solid understanding of unit testing, integration testing, and TDD principles.
• Security: Deep awareness of application and data security best practices, including authentication, encryption, and secure coding.
• Performance: Demonstrated ability to optimize systems for efficiency, maintainability, and resource footprint.
• Collaboration: Excellent communication and documentation skills — able to convey complex technical ideas clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with data visualization, analytics pipelines, or playback telemetry systems.
• Familiarity with NoSQL databases and stream processing frameworks (Kafka, Redis, etc.).
• Previous leadership or mentorship roles within Agile or cross-functional teams.
• Contributions to open-source or visible portfolio of deployed systems.
