Overview

This role requires deep experience supporting a multi-entity (15+), family-owned or closely held organization. The Controller will oversee all accounting functions, financial reporting, and the development of strengthened internal controls across more than twenty entities. Success in this position demands a proactive and communicative mindset, especially when issues arise. The ideal candidate is forward-thinking, challenges outdated processes, streamlines operations, and provides clear, actionable insights to leadership. A practical, common-sense approach is essential.

Key Responsibilities


• Review operational budgets and analyze variances against budget and prior period results


• Deliver proactive analytics and reporting to improve forecasting, identify trends, and support decision-making


• Perform accounting and finance tasks including reconciliations, financial analysis, and budgeting


• Prepare weekly and monthly reporting packages with supporting analysis


• Manage all core accounting operations including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and inventory


• Oversee the monthly close process and prepare monthly and annual financial statements


• Oversee payroll, 401k administration, and insurance programs


• Support select HR functions including benefits, onboarding, hiring, and office management across all entities


• Guide, mentor, and develop accounting staff to support the growth and maturity of the finance function


• Prepare and file sales tax returns


• Handle workers compensation claims


• Manage permits and compliance needs

Experience and Qualifications


• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required


• Fifteen or more years of experience within a consumer goods, food, or beverage environment


• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel


• Experience with Sage software


• Ability to interact professionally with vendors, auditors, and external partners


• Strong communication skills and the ability to present clear financial insights to management
