Using a proven product development methodology, we partner with product companies in the Outdoor Recreation, Sports & Fitness, and Building/Tools industries to bring robust and successful products to market. Founded in 2025, our pipeline is growing rapidly, and we are looking for an experienced design engineer to join our small, high-impact team on a contract basis.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Mechanical Design Engineer for a 3–6 month contract. This role is crucial for managing our expanding project load and will involve working directly with the company founder and our clients to execute product design from concept through production release.

Contract Details

• Duration: 3–6 months with the opportunity for permanent engagement based on performance, culture fit, and company needs.
• Start Date: As soon as possible
• Hours: Minimum of 30 hours per week, flexible schedule
• Location: Remote (Work-From-Home). Atlanta-based candidates are preferred for occasional in-person meetings with the founder or client teams.
• Compensation: Hourly rate starting at $40/hour, however flexible based on experience and skill. There will be no considerations for travel, cell phone, internet ,insurance etc.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute mechanical product design and development tasks such as brainstorming, sketching, CAD, analysis, prototyping, part specifications, vendor searches, and technical drawings.
• Mechanism Design: Develop, analyze, and refine complex mechanical systems and mechanisms.
• Mechanical Analysis: Perform essential engineering calculations, including free body diagrams, sum of moments/forces, gear ratios, and basic bending stress analysis, to validate concepts.
• Proof of Concept Prototyping: Plan and execute rapid prototyping to validate critical design features, performance, and user experience.
• Develop robust 3D models and detailed engineering drawings essential for prototyping, manufacturing, and client presentations.
• Manufacturing Expertise: Act as an expert in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) across subtractive (machining), additive (3D printing), and molding (injection molding, casting) processes.
• Visual Communication: Create excellent visual communication of concepts on slide decks and other presentation materials for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ensure timely and proactive communication is maintained throughout the project lifecycle. Demonstrate initiative and a drive to progress projects without prompting.
• Manage project documentation, ensuring clarity and traceability of design decisions.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical product design and development.
• CAD Expertise: Exceptional proficiency in SolidWorks is essential, including top down design architectures, surfacing, and drawing creation.
• Product Quality: Demonstrated experience designing premium products or precise technical equipment.
• Technical Acumen: Strong understanding of various engineering, manufacturing processes, mechanisms, and materials.
• Work Environment: Highly organized, self-disciplined, and able to manage a minimum 30-hour workload effectively in a remote setting.
• Equipment: Must own a reliable, high-performance computer capable of running SolidWorks without issue, and have a stable internet connection.

Preferred Qualification

• Prototyping Access: Candidate who has an at-home workshop/tools (e.g., 3D printers, basic hand tools) to facilitate rapid, informal prototyping.
• Personal or work experience in one of our three pillar industries: Sports, Outdoor recreation, and building tools. Bonus: Experience with archery / hunting.
