Full time (40 hr/wk), some afterhours may be requested. 8-10 hour shifts with 1 hour lunch breaks.

ABOUT US:

Alaqua Animal Refuge is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Veterinary Technician to join our compassionate and mission-driven team. If you have a passion for shelter medicine and are looking to make a meaningful impact on the lives of animals and the community, we'd love to meet you

  • Overseeing day-to-day patient care in our on-site hospital
  • Assisting the veterinarian during exams, treatments, and surgical procedures
  • Monitoring surgical patients before, during, and after procedures
  • Maintaining accurate medical records
  • Supporting the care of a variety of species, including both small and large animals
  • Ensuring a clean, safe, and compassionate environment for all animals
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, kneel, bend, and properly restrain active animals.
  • Performing X-rays.
  • Placing catheters.
  • Collecting specimen samples.
  • Perform in-hospital lab testing and prepare specimens for outside labs.
  • Administering medications, vaccines, and treatments.

This position requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases; their symptoms, means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care recommendations. The veterinary technician is under the direct guidance and supervision of the veterinary technician team leader and veterinarians.

EDUCATION:

  • State license to work as a certified/licensed/registered veterinary technician in Florida (preferred not required)

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Has a strong passion for shelter medicine and animal welfare
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Is comfortable working with a variety of animal species
  • Is detail-oriented, compassionate, and dependable
  • Previous veterinary or shelter experience preferred; certification is a plus but not required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to prioritize effectively and proactively problem-solve and have good attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Competency in computer data entry and basic recordkeeping.
  • Human relations skills to deal effectively with visitors/customers in person or on the telephone.
  • Demonstrated capability with organizational skills and time management.
  • Good Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel).
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

CONDITIONS OF WORK:

Active, on your feet for 8-10 hours per day and requirement to lift up to 50 lbs.

POSITION PAY:

Starting pay at $18.00 per hour. Adjustments commensurate with experience. Regular raises are considered based on time with the company, efficiency with job position, and increase in responsibilities.
