POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in compliance with, but not limited to, Standards of Practice, and organization protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Develops implements, evaluates, and revises plan of care based on physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient/caregiver. Maintains clinical knowledge and skills competencies to facilitate patient care in accordance with current standards of practice and monitors the environment to provide safe patient care.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Prepares/assembles equipment, instrumentation, and supplies for upcoming casesin accordance withthephysician's preferencecards
  • Damp dusts all flat surfaces and lights in the operating rooms prior to opening sterile packs
  • Assistswith the preparation of the operating room for surgical procedures
  • Ensures patient readiness for surgery including, but not limited to, NPO status, medication administration, surgical siteverification andmarkingand chart completeness.
  • Implements plan of care safely and effectively and provides safe environment, including, but not limited to:
  • a. Positioning patient safely, padding bony prominences and ensuring respiratory and circulatory protection
  • b. Ensuring correct prepping and draping procedures
  • c. Conducting "time-out" process prior to incision to ensure correct patient, correct, procedures, and correct surgicalsite.
  • d. Ensuring asepsis during all procedures. Opens and presents sterile items to sterile field aseptically; ensures supplies are not expired. e. Accounting for all sponges, needles, sharps, during and after the procedures and documenting appropriately. · Accurately records, labels, and handles specimens ·Demonstratescompetence in preparing and cleaning of O.R. suites before, between, and after cases. · Gives thorough report of patient's intra-operative condition to PACU nurse ·Demonstratesability to respond to patient care and operating room needs inan emergency situation· Collaborates with other members of the surgical team to ensure efficient turn-around time between each procedure. · Respects patient's privacy, dignity and confidentiality · Assists with housekeeping duties as necessary to provide a safe environment · Demonstrates the ability to understand and use various types of equipment in the operating room · Updates physician preference cards, as necessary · Able to perform all duties of a circulating room nurse · Recognizes legal and policy limits of individual responsibility · Provides clinical skills necessary to provide quality care according to patient's age and stage of growth and development · Participates in the Quality Program, as directed by supervisor · Performs other duties as may be appropriately required or assigned.

SKILLS

  • Understanding of Internal Classification of Diseases (ICD) and Common Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding
  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Electronic medical record experience(eClinicalWorks preferred)
  • Highly detailed and accurate, with excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communicationand interpersonal skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office (primarily Word, Excel ,Power Point and TEAMS).
  • Must be computer literate with the ability to learn new software applications

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • 2+years of Central Navigator experience(preferred)
  • Knowledge of general administrative and clerical procedures
