POSITION SUMMARY:

Our Waco, TX facility manufactures aluminum beverage cans commonly used for soft drinks, beers, energy drinks, teas and non-carbonated beverages. Using state of the art can-making technology, this high speed environment provides rewarding manufacturing opportunities.

The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) programs for the Aluminum Beverage Can Manufacturing Plant. This key role ensures the facility maintains full compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations (OSHA), drives a robust culture of safety excellence, and partners with operations leadership to achieve a goal of zero incidents and minimize workplace hazards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
  • Regulatory Compliance: Develop, implement, and rigorously manage all written OHS programs, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, Hazard Communication, Machine Guarding, Hearing Conservation, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assessments.
  • OSHA Compliance: Serve as the plant's primary point of contact for all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, inquiries, and reporting requirements. Ensure timely and accurate submission of OSHA logs (e.g., OSHA 300/301).
  • Audits and Inspections: Conduct frequent, documented safety inspections and internal audits across all production and maintenance areas to proactively identify and correct workplace hazards and compliance gaps.
  • Emergency Response: Maintain and manage the plant's Emergency Action Plans, including fire safety, evacuation procedures, and coordinating specialized response teams.
INCIDENT MANAGEMENT AND RISK REDUCTION
  • Incident Investigation: Lead and manage the detailed investigation of all workplace injuries, illnesses, accidents, and near-misses. Utilize Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies to determine failure points and implement permanent, system-level corrective actions.
  • Risk Assessment: Perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and other risk assessments for high-risk tasks and new equipment installations to ensure engineering and administrative controls are in place before work begins.
  • Ergonomics: Manage and drive the plant's ergonomics program, assessing workstations, material handling, and repetitive tasks to proactively reduce musculoskeletal injury risks.
TRAINING AND CULTURE DEVELOPMENT
  • Training Program: Develop and deliver mandatory OHS training programs for all employees, new hires, and contractors on topics related to high-risk activities (LOTO, Fall Protection, etc.). Ensure all training records are meticulously documented.
  • Safety Committee: Lead and facilitate the plant's joint Safety Committee, actively promoting employee participation and input in hazard identification and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Culture Change: Partner directly with the Production Supervisors and Management team to promote a proactive, behavioral-based safety culture where accountability and ownership for safety reside at every level.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Required – Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Engineering or relevant field of study; in lieu of Bachelor's Degree, minimum 4 years' experience in a leadership role serving in an EH&S managerial role plus the required years of experience listed below
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience managing comprehensive safety and health programs in a high-speed, continuous manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
  • Direct experience with high-risk metal forming and high-speed automation (machine guarding, LOTO) is highly desirable.

GENERAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Required Certification: Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or OSHA 501 certification is strongly preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Expert-level knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards and best practices for developing and maintaining high-hazard programs (LOTO, Confined Space).
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for training, report writing, and interacting with regulatory agencies.
  • Problem-Solving: Proven ability to apply structured RCA and analytical skills to complex OHS issues.
  • Preference will be given to qualified local candidates

SOFTWARE/COMPUTER SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Intermediate level of knowledge in basic hardware and software using of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Work, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, Visio, Google Workspace, Outlook/Gmail and web-site software required
  • Has the ability to learn new software systems and data management systems quickly
  • Proficient keyboarding and typing skills

HOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm; present to fulfill job duties & meet operational demands/support; schedule may vary depending on plant operational needs thus flexibility is required which could include long days, occasional evening & weekends; minimal travel for business meetings or trainings may be required; Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position
