Front End Web Developer

Position Description - Hybrid
The Front End Web Developer will build and deploy user-facing interfaces using modern front-end technologies and practices. This role involves developing responsive web applications with HTML5, CSS3, and CSS preprocessors (LESS/SASS), alongside frameworks such as Bootstrap and Bourbon. The developer will also work extensively with JavaScript using current standards—strict mode, modularization, and libraries/frameworks like jQuery, , , and D3. Responsibilities include consuming RESTful APIs, collaborating within Agile/Lean teams, using version control (Git/GitHub), ensuring Section 508 accessibility compliance, creating layouts from static designs, and building views/templates within full-stack frameworks like Rails, Express, or Django. Continuous learning and working with open-source tools is expected.

Required Skills

• Experience developing and maintaining micro-sites, landing pages, and templates.
• Ability to present HTML/CSS mockups for mobile and desktop.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for front-end defects and legacy UI issues.
• Experience creating and updating marketing assets, print media, and internal graphics.
• Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, and W3C standards.

Preferred Skills

• Experience remediating front-end content to meet WCAG 2.1 Level A/AA accessibility standards.
• Strong understanding of WCAG guidelines and ability to apply fixes across websites and templates.
• Familiarity with screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, Narrator, VoiceOver) for manual accessibility testing.
• Expertise in HTML5, CSS/responsive design, JavaScript, jQuery, cross-browser compatibility, Bootstrap, and VS Code.
• Proficiency with Git/GitHub for version control and deployment workflows.
• Ability to support content creators with accessibility-related issues.
• Experience with ADA testing tools like Siteimprove and other accessibility frameworks.
• Knowledge of consuming RESTful APIs.

Required Experience

• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on front-end web development experience, including tools, techniques, and methods for building user interfaces.

Preferred Experience

• At least 4 years in front-end development with strong testing experience and expertise in WCAG 2.1 remediation.

Required Education

• Bachelor's degree in an IT-related or Engineering field. (Additional experience may substitute year-for-year.)
