Job Summary
The
Laboratory Technical Supervisor
is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the hospital laboratory. The Technical Supervisor works in collaboration with the Laboratory Director and Medical Director to evaluate testing needs and staff competency.
Compensation
We are committed to providing wage ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on experience, education and internal equity considerations. The hourly wage range for this position is $37.58–$53.06. This range reflects the base salary for this position.
Key Accountabilities
- Assists with the monitoring of the daily laboratory operations to ensure safe and effective patient care in a timely manner.
- Assists the Laboratory Director in designing a comprehensive and individualized orientation program and competency assessment for all laboratory staff. The competency program should include all phases of testing: pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic.
- Establishes, maintains, and monitors a quality control program appropriate for the scope of testing performed. Reviews QC for all areas of the laboratory monthly. Submits a report to the Medical Director.
- Monitors instrument function checks and instrument maintenance protocols monthly and reviews existing procedures at a minimum of every three years.
- Collaborates with other departments to resolve issues around coding, registration, and/or billing.
- Maintains the validation of laboratory tests through tools such as participation in a CMS-approved proficiency testing program, linearity standards, writing procedures for new methodologies, and reviewing existing procedures at a minimum of every three years.
- Works with the Laboratory Director and Medical Director to ensure the laboratory is in compliance with certifying agencies.
- Assists the Laboratory Director and Medical Director in the evaluation and selection of equipment and test methodologies.
- Assists the Laboratory Director in a laboratory Quality Assurance Program.
- Assists the Laboratory Director with monitoring POCT training and competency.
- Participates in the interview and selection process of new staff.
- Performs essential functions as outlined in Laboratory Technician/Scientist job description.
All employees are required to demonstrate understanding of and adherence to NH+C's Compliance and Ethics Program (including its Code of Conduct), and complete required training.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently to ensure safe and effective communication in a healthcare environment.
- Graduate from an accredited, ASCP certified school of Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Science
- ASCP Certification
- 3–5 years of lab training or experience required
- Must be enrolled in NH+C RQI program for BLS certification and complete the requirements within 90 days of enrollment. Must remain current (complete quarterly assignments prior to the end of each calendar quarter).
- Initial Crisis Prevention Certification (CPI) within six months.
- Workplace Violence education in New Employee Orientation and annually thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Ability to effectively relate to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
Schedule
- 80 hours per two-week pay period
- Primarily day shift, but must be able to cover bench work as needed; 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (various start times); 2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.; 10:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.
- Will be required to help fill in during absences or sick calls
