Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) offers a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. As one of the campuses of the University of North Carolina (UNC) system, North Carolina Central University is located in Durham near Research Triangle Park. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is a full-time, campus-based clinical experience and has a focus on serving diverse populations. The Master of Science degree program in Speech-Language Pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. The North Carolina Central University Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic provide Speech, Language, and Hearing evaluations and treatment services for monolingual and bilingual clients from birth through adult age.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is clinical education and supervision of graduate students in the NCCU Communication Sciences and Disorders. This position will enable the program to maintain accreditation by the CAA in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated clinical competence and current knowledge in the area(s) of practice including assessment and intervention across populations and settings. Experience working with multilingual populations is preferred and other areas of expertise will also be considered. Candidates must be familiar with the current trends of the profession, and knowledge of a range of disabilities across the life span. A commitment to effective clinical education and student development is required.
Minimum Education/Experience
The successful applicant will possess a master's degree or clinical doctorate in Speech-Language Pathology, Certificate of Clinical Competence inSLP, and NC state licensure(or eligibility). Applicants must have at least three years of clinical experience as a certifiedSLP
. Experience supervising graduate students in clinical placements is preferred.
Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA; possess or eligible for NC Licensure in Speech Pathology;
