Role Summary:
Det-Tronics is seeking an experienced and capable Commodity Manager for electrical sub-assemblies and components. This person will report to our Strategic Sourcing Manager and help support oversight of Det-Tronics' supplier base to ensure quality, service, pricing, and capabilities meet our standards. This person will also support Sustaining and NPI development initiatives and ensure Det-Tronics stays ahead of global market trends.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies through analysis of company requirements.
- Conduct detailed market analysis on global commodities, industry trends, exchange rates, trade compliance, and labor rates.
- Provide forecasts to management on trends, opportunities, and potential risks.
- Proactively identify and implement supply chain optimization initiatives to improve cost, quality, and delivery.
- Maintain a robust project pipeline to deliver year-over-year cost savings.
- Lead cross-functional sourcing projects, including new vendor identification, qualification, setup, and production ramp-up.
- Stay informed on technological trends to identify alternative materials or processes that enhance product design.
- Collaborate with design engineering on new product introduction projects.
- Partner with supplier quality to evaluate performance and drive improvements.
- Negotiate with suppliers to resolve quality, price, or service discrepancies.
- Assess supplier capabilities and recommend improvements for productivity, quality, and efficiency.
- Ensure suppliers adhere to Det-Tronics' Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) standards for new product development and changes.
- Assist in developing internal processes that improve business continuity.
- Justify and execute capital expenditure requests to support sourcing projects.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, or related technical field with 5+ years of sourcing experience in a PCBA manufacturing environment; OR equivalent combination of education and 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral presentation, and written communication skills with a professional presence.
- Sourcing or engineering experience with electrical components, PCBs, and PCBA manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing finance, make/buy analysis, total cost of ownership (TCO), MRP/ERP systems, inventory control, and forecasting.
- Ability to interpret PCBA/PCB documentation including blueprints, Gerber files, and BOMs.
- Knowledge of documentation required for PCBA suppliers to quote and build Det-Tronics electrical assemblies.
- Ability to retrieve documentation from configuration management systems (ARAS).
- Familiarity with Approved Vendor Lists (AVL).
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Effective negotiation skills to represent Det-Tronics' interests.
- Experience with ISO:9001 requirements and supplier audits.
- Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean, TQM, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proven project management experience, especially with electrical sub-assemblies and test development.
- Awareness of workplace hazards and proactive safety practices.
- Up to 30% travel.
- Ability to work in a standard office environment.
- Familiarity with JD Edwards ERP and ARAS PLM software.
- Formal negotiation training.
- APICS certification preferred.
