Class 1 Operator - Site Development

D&M Owens Inc. is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Class 1 Operator to join our Site Development Division. This role is responsible for operating heavy equipment essential to land clearing, grading, excavation, trenching, and overall site preparation for commercial and residential construction projects. The ideal candidate is an experienced operator who can work efficiently, follow direction, and contribute to a productive, high-performing crew.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as skid steers, mini-excavators, loaders, dozers, and rollers to complete site development tasks.
• Perform excavation, grading, backfilling, trenching, and material placement according to project plans and supervisor direction.
• Conduct daily pre- and post-equipment inspections, reporting issues immediately.
• Maintain assigned equipment, keeping machines clean, fueled, greased, and in good working condition.
• Assist with job site setup, safety measures, and cleanup.
• Follow all safety procedures, including PPE use, equipment operation protocols, and hazard awareness.
• Load and unload materials as needed to support project progress.
• Communicate with crew members and leadership to ensure safe, efficient workflow.
• Assist with general labor when equipment work is not required.
• Operate equipment around utilities, structures, and personnel with caution and precision.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction or site development.
• Strong understanding of safe operating procedures.
• Ability to read grade stakes and follow site plans is preferred.
• Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and work in outdoor environments, including extreme heat.
• Reliable transportation to and from job sites or company shop.
• Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus.
• Must be dependable, punctual, and a team player.

Work Environment

• Outdoor construction sites with varying terrain and weather conditions.
• Small, specialized crews relying on teamwork and communication.
• Fast-paced environment with day-to-day task changes based on project needs.

Schedule & Pay

• Full-time, Monday–Friday (occasional Saturdays based on job progress).
• Competitive hourly pay based on experience.
• Overtime available.
