Fleet Lubrication Technician

Department: Public Works
Reports to: Fleet Supervisor
Wage: Starting at 27.31/hour
Schedule: 7am-3:30pm Monday-Friday.
Status: Permanent Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Purpose of the Position:

The Fleet Lubrication Technician is responsible for performing routine and preventive maintenance on the City's vehicle fleet. This entry-level position supports the Fleet Management Department by ensuring that oil changes, inspections, tire service, and other basic maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and on schedule. The role provides foundational training and career development opportunities within the City's fleet services.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks.
  • Conduct tire rotations, tire repairs, and brake service.
  • Complete vehicle inspections and document service records.
  • Assist mechanics with routine shop duties and basic repairs.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards in the fleet shop.
  • Other duties as needed.

Working Conditions & Schedule

Shop environment; occasional field environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, solvents, electrical energy, radiant energy, toxic materials, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces; work underground in confined spaces; work at heights.

Sufficient physical ability necessary for walking, standing, stooping, bending, crawling, twisting, climbing, and kneeling for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting, pulling and carrying; and operating motorized equipment and vehicles.

With extensive work around equipment, safety is critical.

Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to follow instructions, maintain records, and work safely as part of a team.
  • Ability to keep workplace organized and clean
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other agencies and the public.

Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License with driving record free from serious or frequent violations.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Previous shop or automotive service experience preferred but not required.
