SALARY RANGE: $53,680 - $112,672 Annually based on degree and student contact hours

JOB SUMMARY

Mid-Pacific seeks an experienced, student-centered, and innovative teacher to lead learning in project-based classrooms. Mid-Pacific celebrates and supports a diverse range of pedagogical approaches. Facilitate learning in various project-based settings, fostering motivation and independence in learners while developing both content knowledge and soft skills necessary for success in education and life. Specific teaching assignments will include teaching STEM and Oceanography. In Mid-Pacific Exploratory, teachers are responsible for covering core concepts from traditional disciplines during one longer, double-scheduled period through a problem/project-based learning approach.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

In addition to content expertise in STEM and/or science courses, the successful applicant will have experience with:

  • Designing authentic, experiential, and interdisciplinary experiences for students including project- and/or challenge-based learning strategies.
  • Working with faculty partners to design authentic classroom lessons that make a break from traditional content-based textbook learning
  • Sculpting questions that motivate students to learn independently and in groups
  • Incorporating educational technology into classroom activities that enable authentic skills and behaviors
  • Drawing interdisciplinary connections and marshalling resources that serve questions across disciplines
  • Working with community organizations to leverage student learning and create real-world applications and audiences for student work
  • Project- and/or challenge-based learning theory and design
  • Managing and assessing student portfolios and presentations of learning to various audiences
  • Carry out all homeroom / advisory responsibilities.

The teacher will also possess outstanding interpersonal communication skills, team-orientation, and adaptive teaching and collaboration skills. As part of the school's project-based team, the teacher is also part of ongoing school-wide efforts to grow teaching practices. Ability to manage a budget and work effectively with outside vendors or community partners is also highly valued.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum requirement: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in core disciplinary areas of Science (Chemistry/Biology), Technology, and/or Engineering. At least two years of teaching experience in secondary school and with a diverse student population is strongly preferred. Expertise and interest in digital media, graphic arts, or photography is an advantage. Previous experience with project-based instruction and/or International Baccalaureate preferred, but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that require frequent walking, including uphill and stairs. The employee on a daily basis is required to frequently unless otherwise noted, walk to and from classrooms or buildings within five

minutes, lift and carry approximately 10-15 pounds (student journals, papers, books, etc.); arrange student desks, furniture in the classroom as needed; stand and sit throughout the day for instruction and supervision of students; walk: class to Chapel (once a week), walk around the classroom, from classroom to copier room (frequently), library (occasionally), fields for fire drills (occasionally), to supervise students (daily); occasional bending; frequent reaching when writing on board, while at desk, for phone, to receive student work (this occurs throughout the day). Some climbing of stairs (daily); walking up a slight hill (daily).

MENTAL DEMANDS

On a daily basis employee must frequently problem solve, make decisions, supervise students/classroom management, interpret data, grade, organize, write, plan, and clearly communicate.
