The Materials Manager will oversee plant level activities within Receiving, Shipping, Inventory, Yard, and Parts (including local purchasing, in accordance with company needs and customer requirements). This is a local position but may require up to 10% travel to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the role to other Sunbelt Solomon production locations and potentially to suppliers. This individual will routinely report to the local Plant Manager and executives on inventory levels, purchasing activities (shortages and part lead-times), RFID performance, receiving and ongoing efforts to improve performance. Additionally, the materials manager will be required to participate in site-wide Kaizen events as part of the team driving overall performance. Compliance with all safety requirements, product quality standards and company policies are essential functions of this role.
- Supervise parts room, receiving, shipping, and local purchasing.
- Supervise ALL material handling in yard and factory to ensure material availability for internal manufacturing production being aligned with production schedules
- Driving cost reductions in purchasing and implementing planning and material forecasting in purchasing to eliminate material shortages and stockout.
- Execution to receiving and storage standards.
- Responsible for building, analyzing, and distributing material forecasts for accurate capacity planning inclusive of execution to min/max requirements for inventory and part purchases
- Identify and execute continuous improvement projects ranging from the Yard Layout and 5S per lean principles to overall operational efficiency in all areas of responsibility
- Mobile equipment maintenance and replenishment
- Match units to orders.
- Local lead for physical inventory count processes
- Enforces strict safety guidelines and ensures environmental compliance is being adhered to.
- Balance safety, quality, cost, and delivery to achieve positive results in all areas.
- Collaborates with Service Center Manager to set daily, weekly, and monthly objectives and communicate these to department leads and employees.
- Responsible for tracking and reporting out on daily production metrics to Service Center Manager
- Analyze production data and reports to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to increase efficiency and productivity.
- Identify and implement process improvements.
- Track employee absenteeism and timekeeping.
- Evaluate employee performance, provide feedback, and implement necessary corrective actions.
- Responsible for employee hiring, terminations and creating a business case analysis for increase in staff support in departments
- Ensure employees complete the required safety and compliance training by scheduled due dates.
- Collaborate closely with other managers to ensure production transitions between department groups are effective.
- Manage vendor and client communications.
- Oversees and manages assigned cost centers and process of inventory control
- Responsible for ensuring organizational business updates are effectively communicated in a timely fashion to supervisors, leads and employees.

High School or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree or Vocational/Trade school preferred.
- 5+ years of inventory control and manufacturing management experience preferred.
- Advanced skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
- WMS (Warehouse Management System) experience required.
- OSHA10 certified preferred.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies required.
A proven track record in safety excellence is required.
- Adheres to all safety and environmental compliance regulations set by the organization. Notifies management immediately of any safety concerns, hazardous conditions, or injuries.
- Ability to interpret work orders and ensure the team has what they need to be set up for success to execute.
- Meet department and production goals set by manager.
- Ensure product quality meets company and client expectations.
- Possess a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, cooperative attitude, strong attention to detail and can work in a team environment.
- Adheres to the company's employee handbook policies and embodies the organization's core values.
- Ability to learn other department job functions and fill in as needed.
- Complete company compliance and safety training when required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and work under pressure in a fast-paced work environment.
Physical requirements for this role include, but are not limited to the following:
- Lift 50lbs floor to waist and waist to shoulder multiple times
- Standing and walking for long durations
- Bending, squatting, and kneeling multiple times for long durations
- The ability to climb up and down a ladder multiple times
- Balance and stand on a ladder with three points of contact for extended periods
- Comfortable working in the heat and cold due to manufacturing facilities not being climate controlled
