We are seeking dedicated and reliable substitute teachers to join our team for daily and long-term classroom assignments within a charter school network in the San Antonio area. As a substitute teacher, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a positive and productive learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Your responsibilities include delivering lesson plans, managing classroom behavior, and ensuring a smooth continuation of the curriculum. Long-term opportunities may arise throughout the year based on campus needs.
Duties:
- Provide instruction and guidance to students in the absence of the regular teacher
- Follow lesson plans and ensure continuity of learning
- Maintain a safe and positive classroom environment
- Implement classroom management strategies to promote student engagement and behavior management
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the individual needs of students
- Collaborate with other staff members to support student success
- Provide feedback to the regular classroom teacher regarding student progress or classroom needs
- Complete all training required by TEA
Additional expectations for long-term assignments may include maintaining consistent routines, supporting classroom technology, and assisting with extended instructional duties.
Experience:
- Previous experience in childcare, early childhood education, tutoring, or related fields is preferred
- Familiarity with math, literacy education, and lesson planning is beneficial
- Experience working with students of various ages and abilities, including preschool and special education students, is a plus
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively engage with students
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; higher education in education or related field is a plus
- Ability to pass a background check
- Strong writing, reading, and communication skills in English
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively manage a classroom and maintain discipline
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in different grade levels and subject areas
- Prior experience working with students in an educational setting is preferred
Physical Abilities Needed to Perform the Assignment:
- Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs
- Stand consecutively for 8 hours; able to kneel, crouch, and sit on the floor
- Able to visually and audibly monitor classrooms and navigate during emergencies
- Able to perform CPR
- Able to move swiftly in emergency situations
