POSITION SUMMARY:
The position is responsible for the completion of the daily scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of the department's facilities, systems, and equipment in an efficient and timely manner. Performs any combination of the following duties to maintain and repair the property of the Tribal Maintenance using a variety of machines, tools, and equipment; receives written work orders or verbal instructions from maintenance manager/supervisor. Position may also be required to work as a laborer on various construction jobs contracted for the Tribe. Additionally, position must maintain and repair all community parks and recreational areas for the Tribe. The Maintenance Technician will meet academic and professional qualifications, demonstrate dedication to excellent service, and support the mission and objectives of Bay Mills Indian Community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Both shifts will work cooperatively to achieve all of the overall goals for the department.
DAY SHIFT
Maintains building accessibility and appearance by picking up papers and trash; removing ice and snow from walkways and parking lot; painting; and maintaining the lawn and surrounding landscape.
Performs minor repairs (not requiring performance by trades persons) to buildings, facilities, service equipment, and the parks/recreational areas. Completes equipment and building repairs by following manufacturer instructions and maintenance procedures.
Keeps equipment, systems, buildings, and parks ready for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, following policies and procedures, and reporting needed changes.
Maintains equipment by installing and repairing associated and backup equipment and systems.
Maintains system for conveying liquids and liquid waste by installing and repairing plumbing apparatus.
Maintains parts and equipment inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; and anticipating needed parts and equipment.
Keeps departmental facilities neat and orderly, and reports supply orders to maintenance supervisor/manager.
Maintains continuity between shifts by documenting maintenance actions, and noting system or equipment irregularities requiring continued monitoring.
Responsible for cleaning and preparing construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
Assist crewmembers in job completion by performing manual labor such as under brushing, hauling and clearing brush, digging and shoveling of dirt or snow, removing debris. This may also include using chain saws and other equipment.
Responsible for wearing all provided safety equipment and abiding by all safety instructions for use of equipment.
Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Must punch in and out at the beginning and end of each shift using an electronic timekeeping system located by employee exits.
Responsible for arriving to work station on time.
Must attend all mandatory trainings designated by the Human Resources Department and/or Department Manager.
Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of this position's essential functions.
NIGHT SHIFT
Maintains building interior by dusting and polishing furniture, equipment, mirrors, and fixtures; washing windows, counters, walls, ceilings, and woodwork; sweeping, scrubbing, and waxing floors; cleaning and vacuuming drapes, furniture, and carpeting; cleans building, washes windows, and empties trash cans transporting materials to disposal area; recycling materials, using brooms, cleaning supplies, and floor buffer; re-supplying rest rooms; replacing light bulbs.

Keeps maintenance room neat and orderly, and reports supply orders to lead maintenance or maintenance supervisor/manager.
Maintains continuity between shifts by documenting maintenance actions, and noting system or equipment irregularities requiring continued monitoring.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Must punch in and out at the beginning and end of each shift using an electronic timekeeping system located by employee exits.
Responsible for arriving at work station on time, wearing proper uniform.
Must attend all mandatory trainings designated by the Human Resources Department and/or Department Manager.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk and stand with occasional sitting. Occasionally the employee must squat, crawl, crouch, and kneel with frequent bending, climbing, balancing, and push/pulling. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds while occasionally lifting up to 100 pounds. The employee is regularly exposed to heights, moving machinery, driving automotive equipment, marked changes in temperature and humidity, dust, fumes, and gases.
Day Shift Techs must have the ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down; ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects; ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences; ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions; ability to use their abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without giving out or fatiguing; ability to see details at close range from where they are working on a job function; ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required to have a Michigan Driver's License and insurable to drive without restrictions.
Experience in maintenance or engineering desired, including janitorial maintenance.
Thorough knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (M.S.D.S.).
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of building, site, pipe laying, and sewer type construction is preferred.
Must be able to get along with, and work well with others.
Must possess a personable, customer service attitude along with organizational ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Must present a well-groomed, professional appearance and speak, understand, and write in the English language.
Must be able to work flexible schedules including holidays and weekends.
Excellent communication skills are required.
Must have an excellent past work record.
