The Commercial Analytics Manager delivers insightful analytics, themes, and solution recommendations to commercial leaders across Steel & Pipe Supply. The role manages an analytics role and ensures all output and recommendations are of the highest quality and accuracy. The Commercial Analytic Manager is responsible for the generation and analysis of all commercial data analytics and partners closely with the SPS Data Analytics team on data architecture, data flow, and data tool and reporting tool construction and quality assurance. The Commercial Analytics Manager reports directly to the President of Steel & Pipe Supply Commercial, and partners closely with all commercial managers and executives and other members of the senior and extended leadership team as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Delivers meaningful analytics-based trends and recommendations to commercial leadership
  • Leverages and continuously improves all analytics software, apps, tools, etc. to ensure the most accurate data
  • Consults with commercial leadership team members to deliver insights and solutions related to the various commercial initiatives deployed throughout the department
  • Manages an analytics individual contributor role, ensuring clear goals, consistent feedback, insightful coaching, and strong accountability and technical training on various areas of analytics subject matter expertise
  • Works in collaborative partnership with the SPS Data Analytics Team to ensure data and data tools are of the highest quality and effectiveness
  • Builds and maintains data systems which assist commercial leadership in risk management decisions pertaining to both the physical and paper buy/sell positions being taken

Physical & Work Requirements:

  • 0 to 10% travel as required
  • Ability to work in office environment
  • May require evening and/or weekend work

Required Background, Competencies & Expertise:

  • 5+ years of demonstrable analytics experience
  • Mastery of specific data analytics technology
  • Familiarity with the basic mechanics of trading steel derivative products
  • Working knowledge of data architecture and flow
  • Superior consultation and communication skills
  • High drive for results
  • Excellent detail orientation
  • Excellent customer orientation
  • Excellent people leadership skills – clarifying goals/expectations, feedback, coaching, and holding self and others accountable for outstanding results
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
  • Adaptable to changing priorities
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Analytics, MIS, Statistics, or similar or equivalent work experience

Preferred Background, Competencies & Expertise:

  • Expert with GAINS software
  • 5+ years of experience with PowerBI
  • 5+ years of experience with steel purchasing
  • 5+ years of experience with pricing and/or sales
  • 5+ years of experience with customer segmentation, stratification, and databased marketing
