Information Security Analyst I

Reporting to and taking direction from the Information Security Officer, the Information Security Analyst I is responsible for the day-to-day operation of security systems, security monitoring, and reactive security incident response. The Information Security Analyst I will have a fundamental understanding of adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures. The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Monitoring and analyzing network activity; Maintaining awareness of current information security threats; Identifying threats and vulnerabilities; and Assist with implementation of information security controls.
Examples of DutiesMonitoring and analyzing network activity - 55%
- Monitor event logs for security incidents
- Investigate impact of security incident
- Respond to and neutralize security incidents
- Report security incidents
- Provide feedback and verification of mitigation to security issues
Maintain awareness of information security threats - 25%
- Monitor vendor and security focused web sites for new and evolving threats
- Review and respond to notifications from information sharing and analysis centers
- Develop information security briefs
Identify threats and vulnerabilities - 10%
- Assist in configuration of security systems to identify threats
- Perform system scans for vulnerability and compliance auditing
- Assist with assessing risk to information systems
- Assist with penetration testing
Assist with implementation of information security controls - 10%
- Assist with installation, configuration, deployment, and documentation of security systems
- Fulfill network access requests
- Maintain the information security web site
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required
Experience:
- Two years' experience and knowledge with cybersecurity
- Familiarity and understanding of cybersecurity analysis procedures and techniques
- Demonstrated ability to apply analytical skill to resolve problems
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, team members, peers, vendors, and constituents of campus community
- Knowledge of programming languages (Python, BASH, PHP, JAVA, etc.) (preferred)
- Knowledge of Linux operating systems (preferred)
- Cybersecurity certification (preferred)
