Your Mission You will join us as our Head of Machine Learning and report to our CTO.
You’ll manage 9 Machine Learning Engineers, including 3 Team Leaders, overseeing both people management and project coordination.
Your responsibilities include aligning strategic direction, coordinating projects, allocating resources, and ensuring alignment with business and product goals.
You’ll contribute to architecture and development by empowering the team through 1:1s, code reviews, and technical discussions to deliver impactful features and foster a culture of growth, efficiency, and technical excellence.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
Lead and nurture the ML engineering team, supporting career development through coaching and mentorship.
Facilitate OKR discussions, project coordination, and team meetings (planning and retros).
Collaborate with the CTO, Platform, and Product Managers to align priorities with company OKRs.
Partner with People on recruiting and onboarding talent that aligns with our values and technical standards.
Act as a sounding board, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and efficiency blockers to accelerate iteration.
Drive development and deployment of ML systems, optimise tools and infrastructure, and ensure timelines and goals are met.
Promote a culture of collaboration and continuous learning, mentoring team members in their development.
Requirements
Strong background in applied AI/ML research, development, and deployment.
Significant experience in leading and executing ML initiatives, especially in high‑growth and large‑scale product companies.
Proven track record managing and growing ML/Data Science teams, including hiring, mentoring, and talent development.
Deep understanding of ML engineering practices, including MLOps and data engineering.
Expertise collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to align ML efforts with product goals.
Strong communication skills to engage with senior leaders, product teams, and engineers in complex technical discussions.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities—methodically decomposing systems to identify bottlenecks, determine root causes, and implement effective solutions.
Commitment to continuous skill development, process improvement, and debt reduction.
Fluency in English with the ability to articulate complex ideas, concepts, and trade‑offs clearly and secure buy‑in for strategic technical decisions.
Bonus
Background in successful startups/scale‑ups with iterative development and rapid delivery.
Experience working in distributed systems environments.
Knowledge of general software design and data protection mechanisms.
