Why join us?
The IESO is committed to ensuring Ontario's electricity system meets the province's needs today and into the future. We are charged with purpose, delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable electricity for homes, businesses, and communities across the province. We are energized to grow, embracing opportunities to shape the future of a dynamic and evolving energy sector while advancing our careers. We are powered by teamwork, supported by diverse and passionate colleagues who foster respect, celebrate successes, and thrive on shared achievements. At the IESO, it's not just what we do—it's who we are
Who we are
Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario's electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario's future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province's energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we'll need in the decades to come.
This posting is for the Operational Transformation team who is responsible for enabling and guiding the Markets & Reliability (M&R) business unit for the evolving electricity grid. We act as the central coordination hub for M&R; anticipating future system and business needs, partnering with M&R divisions to foster data-driven decision making, and driving continuous innovation.
What makes this role exciting
Ontario's electricity system is embarking on an unprecedented transformation due to increasing reliance on electricity, driven by economic growth and decarbonization, alongside an aging supply mix. This shift is compounded by new and emerging technologies such as Distributed Energy Resources and Energy Storage which have significantly different operating characteristics and requirements than traditional generators. As the operator of Ontario's electrical system and market, the IESO has a crucial mandate to ensure reliable, cost-effective, and efficient electricity for all Ontarians.
Just as the IESO is at the center of the grid transition, the Operational Transformation team plays a crucial central role to enable M&R to meet its Vision and Purpose.
We are seeking bright, talented, and motivated people to join our team in supporting the operation of a cost-effective, reliable and sustainable Ontario power grid. A successful candidate is an effective team player, a creative problem solver, a strong communicator, and has, or shows a high degree of potential to obtain, an excellent grasp of power system operations and electricity market fundamentals.
