About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior UX Designer to join our dynamic External Relations Directorate at the University of East London. This pivotal role involves designing and enhancing digital experiences that are intuitive, accessible, and engaging across web and mobile platforms. As a senior member of the digital team, you will lead user‑experience projects, employing research, testing, and iterative design methodologies to optimise our digital products. Your expertise will help shape high‑impact journeys for our diverse audiences, ensuring our digital interfaces meet the highest standards of usability and accessibility. You will collaborate closely with developers, product owners, and stakeholders within an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver innovative solutions that align with the university’s strategic goals.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a combination of relevant education and extensive experience in UX design. A degree in Design, Human‑Computer Interaction, Psychology, or a related field is preferred, along with a strong portfolio demonstrating research, problem‑solving, and visual design skills. Proven experience in conducting user research, gathering requirements, and applying UX methodologies to influence product development is essential. Familiarity with front‑end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is highly desirable to support collaboration with development teams. Excellent communication skills are required to articulate design rationales and influence stakeholders confidently. Experience managing multiple projects, handling ambiguity, and applying innovative problem‑solving techniques is also important. A strong commitment to accessibility, inclusivity, and continuous improvement in digital design is fundamental to this role.
Responsibilities
Lead UX design projects from inception to completion, including conducting user research, creating prototypes, and performing usability testing and validation.
Utilise UX testing tools such as A/B testing, tree testing, card sorting, surveys, and moderated/unmoderated sessions to gather insights and refine designs.
Apply knowledge of front‑end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to support the implementation and performance optimisation of digital products.
Collaborate effectively within Agile/Scrum teams, working closely with developers, product owners, and stakeholders to deliver user‑centred solutions.
Create and maintain prototypes, wireframes, and design systems using tools like Figma, ensuring consistency and adherence to branding and accessibility standards.
Advocate for accessible, inclusive, and user‑centred design principles throughout the project lifecycle.
Stay updated with the latest UX trends, tools, and best practices to continuously enhance digital experiences.
