We're hiring a Senior Back End Software Engineer to join a fast-growing startup in the sustainability and renewables space.
The business is scaling its customer and internal platforms and is building out the core Back End and data foundations that underpin a growing product ecosystem. This is a hands‑on role with real influence over architecture, data systems, and platform direction.
Importantly, there is a
clear progression path in mind towards a Head of Software Engineering position
as the engineering team grows. This role is well suited to someone who wants to remain technically hands‑on while gradually taking on broader ownership and leadership responsibility.
The role
Design, build and extend Back End systems using TypeScript and modern serverless patterns
Develop and maintain APIs and integrations that power customer-facing and internal platforms
Work with database schemas, authentication, and Back End services to support scalable data pipelines
Collaborate closely with Front End engineers to deliver end-to-end features
Contribute to internal automation tools and operational workflows
Balance rapid delivery with reliability, performance and maintainable system design
About you
5+ years' professional experience in Back End or full-stack engineering
Strong proficiency in TypeScript in production environments
Solid understanding of API design, database modelling and serverless architectures
Comfortable working across Back End logic, data modelling and platform integrations
Experience working autonomously in remote, distributed teams
Nice to have
Experience with Supabase or similar Back End-as-a-service platforms
Exposure to data pipelines, analytics or AI/ML integrations
Familiarity with geospatial, sustainability or data-intensive systems
