Your Role As a Mechanical Engineer at Safran Electrical & Power you will help deliver robust designs and work packages using Catia and NX CAD software to high tolerances for use in the aerospace industry. These will be designed to meet stringent manufacturing, quality, cost and weight targets. You will be responsible for developing innovative mechanical design solutions and for the development of through‑life improvements and modifications on existing smart motor and power generation technologies.
Create and support the definition of robust mechanical design solutions for R&D/R&T projects, ensuring designs are technically robust, fit for purpose and meet both business and customer needs.
Deliver engineering solutions that meet ‘Design to Cost’ and ‘Design to Manufacture/Assembly’ requirements.
Produce and maintain CAD models, drawings and parts lists compliant with all company standards.
Serve as focal point for engineering investigation support to Manufacture Engineering, Operations, Programs and Supply chain, Customer Support & Quality.
Mechanical Design of in‑service product alterations and tooling including documentation.
Review and approve design activities created by themselves and others.
Produce and report on Design Assurance documentation (design reports, test procedures, hand/stress calculations, interference fits, thermal growth, hoop and tensile stresses, thread loadings and tolerance analyses).
Oversee and approve design solutions delivered by more junior Engineers within designated teams.
What You'll Bring
Mechanical, Automotive or Aeronautical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification/work experience – Essential.
Strong understanding of engineering materials and production methods relevant to them – Essential.
Clear communication skills, written and verbal, to all levels within the business and ability to interact easily with other engineering teams – Essential.
Experience delivering work packages and supervising and guiding other engineers in a team – Desirable.
Experience with rotating equipment such as shafts, bearings, rotors, motors, generators or other electrical machines – Desirable.
Specific knowledge of electrical & electronic systems – Desirable.
