Job Description The successful candidate will join the microcontroller (MCU) product development group where you will work on developing our broad portfolio of next‑generation scalable MCUs. The breadth of our portfolio, for example, includes Automotive Connectivity and Communication, Motor Control, Functional Safety, Security, Touch, and General Purpose. You will join the product development team in our Cambridge Design Centre working on SoC products from concept through to volume production.
An opening exists for a Senior Technical Staff Engineer in our Design team with an interest in technical leadership of SoC projects. This will involve working with architects during the concept phase, developing the microarchitecture specification, planning the detailed project plan, and technically leading the SoC design additions. You will work alongside experienced engineers and be exposed to Microchip’s Best‑In‑Class engineering practices. Areas of Expertise
SoC microcontroller architecture and design
Bus fabrics / protocols (APB, AHB, AXI, etc.)
Low‑power design
IP development
Functional Safety
Packaging technologies
Standard peripherals / communication protocols (USB, I3C, UART, etc.)
Key Responsibilities
Lead SoC design projects from concept to volume production
Design, integrate, and verify IP blocks
Conduct design checking, synthesis, static timing analysis, and power analysis
SoC‑level design and verification
Work with DFT design implementation and physical design team members
Continuously improve methodologies across the SoC development cycle
Plan, manage timelines and deliverables, and communicate progress to stakeholders
Requirements / Qualifications
Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering (or equivalent)
15 years of experience in digital / mixed‑signal SoC design
Deep understanding of design principles spanning the SoC development process
Expertise in RTL design, verification, DFT, and physical design
Strong experience with synthesis tools and timing analysis methodologies
Experience in verification at IP and SoC levels (UVM, SV, etc.)
Strong scripting skills (Python)
Proven ability to lead teams and drive execution to meet project goals
Team‑player mindset, agile‑minded, proactive, clear communicator, and highly organised
