We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a busy and growing building services consultancy in Cardiff. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering mechanical engineering design solutions across a diverse range of projects including commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and industrial sectors. This is a great opportunity to join a collaborative team where you will have autonomy over your work, lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and help shape the technical direction of the business. Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design and engineering on projects from concept through to completion Prepare and review detailed calculations, specifications, and design documentation Produce drawings and BIM / Revit models to a high standard Manage project deliverables including design risk assessments, client liaison, and coordination with multi-disciplinary teams Mentor and support junior and intermediate engineers Ensure designs comply with relevant UK standards and regulations (e.g., CIBSE, Building Regulations, Part L) Keep up to date with industry best practices and emerging technologies Contribute to business development and client relationship management Skills & Experience
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (BEng, MEng or equivalent) Typically 6+ years’ experience in mechanical building services design consultancy Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, heating, ventilation, cooling, and renewable technologies Experience with design software including AutoCAD, Revit, and relevant calculation tools Proven ability to manage projects and lead design teams Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Understanding of UK building regulations, CIBSE guides, and sustainability principles Chartered status (e.g., CEng, MCIBSE) is preferred but not essential Why Join?
