The Senior Network Engineer, as part of the IS Communications Systems group, is responsible for the Firm’s WLAN, LAN and WAN environments. The Senior Network Engineer is a technical expert who executes effectively on network infrastructure projects requiring specialised knowledge. This position, with minimum supervision, will have a thorough understanding of Firm technologies and systems as well as be able to understand both the business and technical requirements for new products that will be engineered and implemented by the group. This position works very closely with the Architecture and Engineering group as well as the Network Operations group to provision complex network infrastructure designs. Additionally, this position will mentor junior level engineers as well as provide third level support for complex issues, problems or projects.
Primary Position Responsibilities
Engineer, configure and support firm LAN, WAN and SD‑WAN environments with a focus on enterprise wireless infrastructure.
Analyse wireless survey data for new wireless implementations and for review/improvement of existing wireless implementations.
Coordinate installation and upgrades of Aruba wireless infrastructure firm‑wide.
Monitor wireless infrastructure health and statistics utilizing Aruba Airwave and other tools.
Research emerging network technologies and make recommendations based on future business needs.
Monitor network performance and integrity.
Troubleshooting and issue management of Firm network infrastructure.
Perform network maintenance, upgrades and refreshes.
Assist with regional office build outs and upgrades.
Assist with network access controls in alignment with Security team.
Assist the Network Operations team with implementation of required hardware in data centres and office locations.
Identify problem areas and proactively develop solutions to meet network infrastructure challenges.
Monitor, measure and analyse data and trends against performance and security SLAs.
Coordinate with and participate in activities with vendors as required.
Participate in the planning, testing and execution of DR/BC procedures including failover and failback between datacentres and across the Firm’s network.
Develop the organisation by mentoring junior engineers and developing “how to” guides under the direction of the manager or consultant.
Day to day technical support of network at the Firm’s datacentres and at Firm office premises, ensuring a high level of efficiency in problem resolution and uptime.
Provide on‑call support to remedy equipment failures by working with NetOps, Facilities and service providers at Firm office locations as well as datacentres.
Provide clear and grammatically correct system and end user documentation, emails, procedures, and status (both verbal and written).
Comply with all department policies, standards and procedures.
Additional Position Responsibilities
Assist with the deployment and support of systems infrastructure.
Participate in Change Control and Change Management.
Respond to administrative requests and responsibilities in a timely manner.
Assist Management in administrative tasks and vendor management.
Exercise care in the course of work to prevent injuries to oneself and co‑workers.
All other duties as assigned or required.
Skills & Experience Required
Minimum of 5 years’ experience designing and implementing high density enterprise wireless networks.
Expertise with Aruba wireless technologies including virtual and physical WLAN controllers, Mobility Master and Airwave.
Hands on experience with Cisco switching, routing and SD‑WAN platforms.
Strong knowledge of routing protocols including BGP, EIGRP and OSPF.
Strong knowledge of firewall concepts.
Ability to travel to other offices as needed.
Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required.
Following new‑hire orientation, exhibit proficiency in the Firm’s mainstream business applications.
Preferred
Experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls.
Educated to degree level, preferably in engineering or computer field.
Aruba and/or Cisco certification.
Prior law firm experience.
Competencies

Must have strong analytical skills and outstanding project management skills and be capable of interpreting and applying complex technical information: has knowledge of systems design and implementation in a database environment.
Ability to work independently and to make sound judgments regarding the best course of action to resolve problems; ability to determine when further expertise is necessary and contact the proper individuals as required.
Ability to work effectively under pressure, set priorities, handle a number of matters concurrently and in a timely manner, all within a fast paced environment.
Ability to manage, counsel and supervise others, including contractors and vendors.
High levels of organisational skills required to adequately manage projects, monitor numerous live systems simultaneously, ascertain trends which may indicate problems and keep accurate up‑to‑date records.
