Our company is split into two business areas: Utility Infrastructure and Social Infrastructure. Each area is staffed by highly skilled specialists.
We are currently looking to recruit a Senior Design Coordinator for our Social Housing design team to assist the Design Manager in coordinating the consultant team in the detailed design process. The role ensures the design is fully coordinated, complies with United Infrastructure's requirements and regulations, achieves necessary approvals, and enables on‑site start in line with agreed programmes.
Responsibilities
Coordinate technical and design processes, teams and subcontractors throughout detail design, procurement and construction, monitoring progress to ensure delivery on time and in budget.
Technical design coordination of schemes, ensuring company targets and maximum revenue are generated by quality, cost‑effectiveness and buildability.
Assist Design Manager with reviewing consultants’ detail design drawings and subcontractor designs.
Coordinate consultants and their deliverables, driving a high standard.
Ensure designs comply with Company standards and respect budgetary constraints.
Provide support to Design Manager on job running and ensure fully complete, correct and coordinated packages are issued to Commercial and Construction teams.
Maintain and deliver in accordance with Company values.
Manage subcontractor and supplier design approvals ensuring timely turnaround.
Monitor subcontractor design approvals and keep the approvals schedule up to date in line with build programme.
Manage the flow of information to Commercial, Operations and Client.
Update and coordinate monthly design schedules.
Review and coordinate design and technical related issues with Commercial and Operations teams.
Manage change control process for variations in relation to drawing revisions, construction programmes and costs.
Monitor and obtain all critical certificates to ensure documentation is in place for completion and handovers.
Collate required information and liaise with Planning Authorities and Building Control for submissions and approvals.
Ensure all documents are correctly available for the Document Controller.
Manage processing of information through the document management system workflows.
Ensure current drawings are filed in order and design information exchange follows company protocol.
Undertake site visits as required and attend site meetings and project meetings.
Serve as prime design and technical contact during construction works.
Monitor work executed on site to ensure it meets benchmarked specifications.
Investigate and respond promptly with full close‑out to RFIs from site team and subcontractors.
Review and advise on corrective measures for identified design issues.
Compile H&S files and O&M manuals.
Maintain compliance with company policies, procedures and instructions.
Comply with responsibilities laid down in the group’s health, safety and environmental policy.
Requirements – Essential
Thorough with a proactive management style.

Analytical approach with eye for detail.
Leadership skills – decisive, flexible, good time management, organised, effective, works well under pressure and to strict deadlines.
Ability to review drawings and identify buildability and technical issues.
Project and process management experience.
Problem solving and decision making.
Design delivery and risk assessment experience.
Effective communication with all levels of management and project teams, internally and externally.
Proven track record of design coordination.
Minimum relevant Level 4 qualification (HNC/NVQ 4 etc.).
Up‑to‑date construction industry knowledge including legislation and procedures.
Valid driving licence.
Knowledge of methodology and sequencing in delivering construction projects, including design and pre‑construction activities.
Relevant design and build experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
Passionate about construction and customer satisfaction, with a focus on high standards and excellence.
Proven track record of design requirements for procurement and construction purposes.
In‑depth knowledge of contractual requirements and section agreements and utility application process.
Tenacious and driven.
Strong practical knowledge of construction work types, methods and design solutions.
Experience with CAD (AutoCAD or Revit).
Knowledge and understanding of BIM.
Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIOB, CIAT, or RICS).
Experience of Building Safety Act relevant works.
Experience of retrofit works.
