Overview We are excited to offer a permanent Mobile Electrician position in the West Midlands. The role will involve travel across the region, visiting HMP Hewell and HMP Long Lartin. You will have access to a company van and fuel allowance, giving you everything you need to travel between sites without hassle.
The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, 08:00 – 17:00 with an earlier finish every Friday. There is a need to work one weekend out of three, on a rota basis, with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary, and part of an on‑call rota.
What You Will Do
Manage and authorise high and low‑risk electrical maintenance activities across the FM estate, acting as Authorised Person / Responsible Person (AP/ RP) in line with Amey Safety Rules. (Training will be provided.)
Deliver both planned and reactive ‘like for like’ electrical maintenance within prison environments, ensuring systems are safe, compliant and fully operational.
Carry out electrical inspection tests and install electrical equipment and wiring across multiple prison sites.
Diagnose faults, replace components and resolve issues across a wide range of electrical systems.
Oversee and supervise Level 2 electrical work, ensuring quality and compliance.
Consistently uphold Health & Safety standards, complete risk assessments and follow safe systems of work.
Maintain the security of plant, tools and materials, and ensure the safe use of vehicles when required.
Support with escorting duties and assist with other tasks as needed.
What You Will Bring
Appropriate technical qualification (e.g. City & Guilds 2365 parts 1‑3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above)
City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing
BS7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically 18th Edition*
Ideally 3+ years as an electrician, with at least 2 years in test and inspection roles. Commercial/industrial experience preferred.
Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
Capable of working at heights.
Ability to work alone and use initiative.
Good all‑round project management knowledge.
Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), with proficiency in IT.
Experience in managing stakeholder relationships at all levels. IT skills.
Full UK driving licence.
